"I couldn't be happier with the work that Shawn and Chad did on my electrical upgrade, outlet repairs, outlet installs, and ceiling light installs. These two professionals went above and beyond my wildest expectations! Both men were very pleasant, professional, and knew exactly what they were doing. Even though it took them longer than anticipated due to my 113 year old house, I wasn't charged any additional amount over the original quote and the original quote was more than reasonable. I would definitely recommend 3-R Electric to anyone needing electrical work done. I also plan on hiring them again in the very near future to do some more lighting installations."

"It is my strong opinion that Hummingbird Electric is the company for any work you need at home or in office etc. As I am a thoroughly satisfied / repeat Customer, I want to take the time to share my earnest view, as I could not be happier with the Hummingbird team. I am a repeat Customer who has received nothing but high value and positive experiences. As a rental property owner, I get to work with a lot of crews (plus, my father was an electrician,) so I am always more critical on the electrical guys. ;) I have done MULTIPLE projects with the owner in years past and current. I refuse to even look at any other electricians. The level of professionalism, subject matter expertise, punctuality, quality of work performed is all 10 of 10 across the board. You won't find better. I had a lot of remodel, update all light fixtures, switches, wiring done for my previous home in 2020. The work was impeccable and was a very fair price. I realized, I need to make sure to always leverage these guys, as I was blown away. My Tesla jack they installed this month 2022 sincerely looks like a million bucks - most important to note is my appreciation of A) safety their team observes, B) the quality and precision of install, and lastly C) aesthetics of the work. They paid attention to items down to nitty gritty - for example, the conduit installed is absolutely level. The placement and install not only looks great, but it it is SOLID. Like, I cannot move the conduit, it is secure and correct. The only thing that is even more amazing than their implementation is their obvious attention to detail and caring about the work they do. I am someone that like to think I take pride in my work - so, I feel I recognize it in others. The owner is a professional and is down to earth and tries always to make sure you understand options, pros / cons, etc. That is big to me. In this world today, it is hard to find help, much less good help - or in Hummingbird's case AMAZING OUT OF THIS WORK support, it is not easy, I know. You found yourself the best Electrical company hands down - you will not be disappointed."

"KMJ demo-ed the roof above our kitchen to expand an upstairs bedroom, did new construction to convert that bedroom to a master suite with a full bathroom and two walk-in closets. I am very pleased with the work!"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

If you’re wondering if you can use your electric vehicle as a backup battery, it depends on whether your EV is compatible with bidirectional charging. This technology allows energy to flow both ways, enabling vehicle-to-home (V2H) backup power, vehicle-to-load (V2L) for appliances and camping, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) to support the power grid. Compatible EVs convert stored DC energy into usable AC power, helping reduce energy costs and enhance grid stability while providing emergency backup power.

As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.

Natural gas generators are designed to run for extended periods of time, such as power outages during a natural disaster. Since there’s no limit to the supply of natural gas, they don’t need to stop for refills. However, generators do need maintenance, including pauses to check and add oil. Constantly running them will also cause a lot more wear and tear, leading to a shorter lifespan.

Most homeowners won't be able to claim a home generator as a tax write-off. However, a whole-house generator may be tax-deductible in certain situations depending on its purpose. For instance, if it's needed to power essential medical equipment, it may qualify as a medical expense deduction. Also, in some cases, businesses can deduct a generator as a business expense if it supports operations. Always consult a tax professional to determine eligibility based on your specific circumstances and the applicable IRS regulations.

Yes, in most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home models. Because these installations involve significant alterations to your home's electrical system and produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require a permit or inspection for safety purposes. A generator permit typically costs between $50 and $250, depending on your location. Your electrician or certified installer can usually handle the permitting process for you, but you will be responsible for the cost. It's a good practice to confirm with your installer that they will pull all necessary permits before work begins.
