32 years of experience

Hawk Custom Carpentry does just what the name refers to, custom carpentry of all types. It is a sole proprietor business with the capability of over seeing small to medium construction projects as general contractor controlling and coordinating the scheduling of sub-contractors of the clients choosing, or using our own sub-contractors who have worked with us for years. We have worked on many high end commercial jobs as sub-contractors ourselves, building bars for restaurants, installing doors, hardware, kitchens, cabinetry and counter tops for universities, high schools and hospitals to name a few. We specialize in residential work in everything from custom additions, to bathrooms, finished basements, kitchens, and complete installations of wood, coal and pellet stoves. We do replacement windows, decks, siding and almost all manner of home improvement. We especially enjoy high-end custom carpentry work and have never had a dissatisfied customer, which should weigh heavily in today's market. Our billing procedure for residential work is normally 50% down with 30% due halfway through the project and 20% upon completion. Each contract and situation is different and we are willing to work with our customers needing special consideration. We no longer finance our work.

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

If you remove a load-bearing wall to create an entrance to a carport or covered patio, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. Factors such as the type of addition and if that area needs additional work will add to the price.

Yes, many kinds of building permits exist for various projects in and outside your home. Each city sets the permit categories, but they typically cover new construction, alterations, and demolition. For example, you will need a different permit to finish a basement than you would tear down the patio.

The minimum recommended height for a carport is 7 feet tall, but you might need a significantly taller carport to provide clearance for RVs, commercial trucks, or other tall vehicles. You can choose your carport height based on the clearance you need and how the carport looks in comparison to the height of your home. Just keep in mind that building regulations usually dictate a maximum carport height.

New builds, remodels, and additions often necessitate professional framing expertise.

A board foot is a volumetric unit and is primarily used for pricing and planning larger projects where volume is a factor. Pricing lumber by the board foot aids in understanding exactly how much wood you’re purchasing, as volume is a more accurate unit of measurement compared to square feet.
