"They did a great job in 2005, so I called them again in 2021. I paid them in full when when the job was finished, but once it dried and I was able to walk on it, I realized my floor was full of waves and imperfections. The quarter round molding was never removed, so the floor goes uphill everywhere it meets the molding. It took me months to get him back to look at it, at which time he offered tons of excuses and denied being able to see the waves. I asked him to stop back in the evening when it's much more apparent, but he didn't. I should also mention that I had asked him before he started if I'd be better off replacing the floors, but he told me the wood was unavailable. Soon afterwards I learned that was untrue. Thousands of dollars were wasted by using this company."

Epoxy Flooring questions, answered by experts

Using too much soap or floor cleaner can leave your laminate floors looking dirty or cloudy after mopping. Only use a teaspoon of soap or cleaning solution in a gallon of water. Additionally, always be sure to sweep or vacuum laminate floors before mopping to ensure you pick up dried grit, hair, and dust that can be harder to catch with a wet mop.

Yes, carpet tiles are easy to install—even if you don’t have much DIY experience. In fact, the simple installation process is one of the main reasons that people choose carpet tiles over traditional carpet. Since carpet tiles come in individual squares, they aren’t as heavy or awkward to install as regular carpet. Plus, you don’t need specialized equipment (like knee kickers or carpet stretchers) when installing carpet tiles.

It depends on what’s important to you. For instance, if you’re looking for the lowest-priced carpet material, consider polyester. Alternatively, you could go with olefin (also known as polypropylene), another synthetic carpet material that costs about the same as polyester. Otherwise, if durability is the priority, nylon or wool would be a better choice.

Not sure what you need? A local carpet installer can explain the difference between various carpet types and help you decide what’s best for your home.

The first step in budgeting for carpet is to determine the amount of carpet you need and the type of carpet you want. You might be tempted to opt for the least expensive option if you have a limited budget, but a low-quality carpet won’t last as long as a high-quality one. When accounting for future carpet repair costs, it makes sense to buy the best-quality carpet you can afford.

If the installer is unwilling to fix the problems and you’re not interested in seeking remediation, you could hide a visually unpleasant floor. This will only work if the floor is structurally sound and the only issue you have is the way it looks. The easiest way to do this is to use large area rugs. You can also paint the floor, although that’s a labor-intensive job if you want to go the DIY route.
