"Amazingly fast, responsive, and professional. My lawn mower broke and I let my lawn go through the winter, but something needed to get done. Montiel's Yard Maintenance LLC were the first to respond. In fact, they came out the same day I inquired, and mowed my lawn in the same visit! Not going with anyone else. I'm a happy customer!"

".We were very happy with Happy Const.  Bradley responded to my phone call promptly, provided a bid when he said he would, and started worked promptly.  The job took about 2 days and Bradley cleaned up after each day.  Since the work was being done in our bedroom we appreciated this.  Bradley had a couple of suggestions that really improved the project with only minimal additional expense.  We will definitely call Bradley again.

"I am grateful beyond words for the amazing job the guys did! I called to inquire about their services on June 5. They came out that evening to take a look at the job and began work 2 days later. Travis and Dallas are both very hard working, creative, punctual, thorough, have great follow through, a strong work ethic and go above and beyond. I am especially grateful to them for their diligence in connecting with our neighbors, removing bothersome vegetation that had migrated into their yards and the way they continue to keep an eye out for that during their regular servicing of our yard. They clearly enjoy their work and can be counted on to complete any job/project in a timely manner. They have completed 2 big jobs for us since early June and will continue to care for our yard twice a month moving forward. I highly recommend Best Buds Lawn Care!"

"I’d highly recommend Root Construction as I’m very pleased with the final product. Robert and his crew were really easy and enjoyable to work with. They did good quality work very quickly but were also flexible and creative when we ran into unexpected situations - something I really appreciated. I’ll definitely call them again when I need more remodeling work done."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Pressure-treated decks last 15 to 20 years on average, but with proper maintenance, you could get 40 to 50 years of value from yours. Reseal your deck every one to two years, and replace old or rotted wood as soon as possible to avoid structural damage. Where you live plays a role in the lifespan of your deck. Intense sunlight, rainfall, wind, and hail can reduce the deck’s lifespan.

There are more pros than cons when staining a deck. Deck stain is more affordable than paint, it protects the wood and allows the natural textures to shine through, and it can revive the appearance of your home. However, deck stain also requires prep work (sometimes days or more), carries more upkeep than a painted deck, and can fade over time if not cared for.

The average cost to professionally clean or pressure wash a deck is around $150, with prices typically ranging from $100 to $600. Several factors influence the final price, including the deck's size, material, condition, and how long it has been since its last cleaning. For a smaller deck of about 300 square feet, you might pay around $100. For a larger deck of 1,000 square feet or more, the cost could be closer to $300 to $400. Decks that are very dirty or haven't been cleaned in years may require more time and special detergents, which will increase the price. The deck's material also plays a role. Wood decks often cost more to clean because they require a gentle power washing technique to avoid damage. Composite decks are typically less expensive to clean, and cleaning a metal deck may cost around $100.

The best direction for a gate to swing depends on its location and purpose, but swinging inward is the general rule. An inward swing is often considered safer, prevents the gate from opening into public spaces like a sidewalk, and may be required by local building codes.

There are exceptions and specific considerations. If your property is on a slope, an inward swing might not be possible. For a deck gate, it's safest to have it swing away from any steps. In a backyard, the direction can be a matter of preference, though an inward swing can be helpful when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

Regardless of direction, ensure the gate can open fully without hitting any objects or blocking spaces. While an inward swing is standard, a gate that can swing both in and out offers the most flexibility if your setup allows for it.

In general, you need a footing at each corner of your deck, and within 8 feet of each other. So, how many you need depends on the size and shape of your deck, plus any local building codes. It also depends on factors like the load capacity of your soil and the weight of your deck. You can find a footing calculator online or contact a pro for support.
