We are an owner operated natural stone restoration service. Our goal is to educate our customers about their stone: how to properly care for it and how to avoid damaging it so it looks better, longer after we repair, refinish, or restore it. We accept all major credit cards and offer free on-site evaluations. We also offer advice on stone selection. When choosing a stone for a new project, it is good to have someone that understands stone on your side. Too many times I've seen a beautiful stone installed in the wrong location for the type of stone, and very quickly that new stone installation turns into regret. Also, some granite slabs can look great in a warehouse stacked vertically, but look much different once installed on your cabinets with natural light from windows. Give us a call with any questions you may have.

Furniture Refinishing questions, answered by experts

No, you don't have to apply polyurethane to butcher block countertops. Polyurethane sealant is a long-lasting finish for a butcher block counter, but its application also requires thoroughly sanding the surface multiple times. Other materials, such as mineral oil, require less work but must be applied more frequently.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.

Stay away from using window cleaners and other harsh cleaning solutions on antique wood—or any wood in your home for that matter. The pH of the cleaners can break down the finish and permanently damage and stain the wood below. Even when it comes to more durable areas, such as when cleaning your baseboards, only use cleaning solutions that are safe for porous materials.

No. Once you apply refinishing oil, it will continue to seep into the wood, making it difficult or impossible to refinish over top of it. Since the product contains an oil that’s meant to penetrate existing finishes, almost anything you put on top of it will bring the previous layer of stain with it. If you plan to refinish your cabinets more than once, it’s a good idea to go with the traditional method of sanding before applying a new finish to the surface.

Yes, in most cases it’s a good idea to wrap furniture in plastic to protect it from dirt, dust, and damage during storage. However, natural and porous materials such as wood or leather should have breathable fabric covers to prevent moisture damage from condensation. Either way, it’s always important to ensure proper ventilation to prevent moisture buildup, especially in humid climates.
