Sean Murphy learned the electrical trade from his dad at an early age in Oregon, and since then he's continued solving people’s electrical problems with the same dedication and craftsmanship he was taught. Over the years, Murphy Family Electric has grown from a small family operation into a trusted name known for quality, integrity, and innovation. We take pride in providing reliable, code-compliant solutions—from residential service calls to complex commercial installations and energy-efficient upgrades. Our team combines hands-on experience with the latest electrical technologies, including smart systems, solar integration, and EV charging. Every project is personal to us, because our name is on it. At Murphy Family Electric, we believe great service means more than just power—it’s about trust, safety, and lighting the way forward for families and businesses alike.

"Murphy's Family Services should never be hired for electrical work. They are a company that cuts corners and takes advantage of its customers. Before writing this review, I made multiple attempts to contact Murphy's Family Services. When they finally answered and I asked if them if they had a minute to talk to me, they said “no” and hung up. This is the level of service Murphy has to offer. I hired Murphy's Family Services for a full day of service on August 7th, 2020. Based on the previous reviews, I expected a professional that could do things in a safe and timely manner. Unfortunately, I ended up with incredibly slow service, multiple electrical code violations, and a complete lack of professionalism. The day started with the electrician coming an hour late. Luckily, I currently work from home so I was able to greet them at the door and run through everything I needed to have done. He told me everything was good and got to work. After only working for three hours, the electrician walked over and informed me he didn't have the right supplies for the rest of the work so I would either need to cut the visit short (half a day) or pay for his time while he was out shopping for the supplies. This was a big red flag for me because we had gone through the list upon arrival so he knew at the start he did not have the supplies but stayed quiet. Also, one day of electrical work was a much better deal than doing two half a day ($929 versus $764). I was at a meeting for work during this conversation so I didn't have time to really talk this through with him. I just told him that he needed to finish the basement light (since that was a high priority and still not started) and that I would call to discuss if I wanted to do the rest of the work another day. The work completed in a four hour period: * Replace a two-wire (ungrounded) electrical outlet with a three-prong - I told the electrician I wanted a GFCI outlet put in but he told me this was unnecessary and installed a grounded, three-wire electrical outlet where there is no ground to connect to. This was the first National Electrical Code (NEC) violation. * Replace an improperly installed light fixture in the basement with a proper one - The previous homeowners had improperly installed a hanging fluorescent light so I asked my electrician to take that light down and put in an outlet so that the new light could be installed correctly. The new light was a LED shop light with a cord. The electrician ignored my instructions and cut the cord, hard-writing the light into an electrical junction box. This is the second NEC code violation. To get this fixed, I will have to buy a 3rd light fixture since the cord has been cut. * Replace a ceiling fan in my bedroom - This was done very poorly. For one, the electrician forgot to connect my light switch to the fan so now the light/fan can only be controlled via pull chain (my light switch does nothing). - I also noticed that the ceiling fan swings quite a bit and had another electrician took a look for me during an estimate, they told me that I didn't have a fan rated box installed and there was a risk of the fan falling on us when we were sleeping. This was the third NEC code violation. * Add an electrical outlet a foot away from an existing outlet - The outlet seems to work but I'm hesitant to use it because everything else was done incorrectly. Do not hire Murphy's Family Services for any electrical work!"

"I'm selling my house and needed a quick turn-around to get some electrical work done as required by the buyers' lender. It's only been a couple days since I posted my project on Angi and the work is already done. Safety Home Services contacted me right away to get my project on their schedule. Kevin arrived as scheduled and was very quick and thorough with the GFCI replacements and other items on my list. As a bonus, he identified and clearly labeled all the switches in my breaker box. I'm a very happy customer."

"I used diferent contractors in the past, always had issues. West Myth Remodeling will always be on top of my list, not only for the quality work, but their soul and pride they involve in the project. At the end they(owner and team) became almost part of the family, due to their heart and dedication. I truly love these guys. Recommended them to all my friends and family who are in need of a serious contractor. Great prices, too-very fair comparing to other bigger company who most of the time will rip you off, increasing fees, etc. You will be treated like you want and need to call them again next time, without getting bids from 5 other companies.Awesome is the word they deserve!"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

In many cases, you’ll need a permit or basic inspection to install one of these large generators. Since they include significant alterations to your home electrical system and many produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require jumping through a few hoops for general safety purposes. Your installer may be able to help you with these permits.

If your home already has a grinder pump and you’re still noticing issues (like frequently clogged toilets and sinks), it could be time to upgrade your grinder pump. Start by checking your existing horsepower. If there are four or fewer people living in your home, using a 1/2-horsepower grinder pump should be sufficient. Larger households should consider investing in a 1-horsepower grinder pump to maximize wastewater removal efforts.

Generally, you’ll want to keep between 60 and 70 feet between the generator and the transfer switch. There are a few reasons for this, including:

  • The distance reduces the noise coming from the generator into your home.

  • It increases efficiency because you won’t have a voltage drop from this short of a distance.

  • Prevents carbon monoxide poisoning: keep at least 15 feet between your generator and an open window.

Yes, natural gas generators can work without electricity. Natural gas generators are a common type of backup or whole-house generator that operates when the electrical grid isn’t working. The trick is using a transfer switch (which usually needs to be installed with the generator) that safely switches the home electrical system from the power grid to generator power when needed.

Homeowners can often access federal tax credits, such as the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which covers a percentage of installation costs. Many states and utilities offer additional rebates, grants, or performance-based incentives. These programs can significantly lower your upfront investment. Check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) or contact your local energy office for current offers.
