"DaBella Exteriors with work performed by H&B Roofing.
The work was originally stated it would take two to three days. It ended up being two weeks and two days from start to finish.
Coax TV cable was cut with no notification from workers. We found this later that evening when we discovered no TV signal to the upstairs of the house.
Siding was damaged when removing existing/installing new flashing. When informing of the issue, the first response was to note in H&B?s contract that they are not responsible for siding damage. I was told what I could do to fix the siding. The communicated solution was to cut the siding up removing the damaged edge. This is what the H&B workers did at the end of their work. During discussion of the problem, I commented that I couldn't sleep if I did something like that. I asked how they slept at night and received a flippant reply of "I sleep fine, I sleep like a baby...".
There were two other lesser siding damage points of concern. There is also a small damaged spot to our deck that looks like something was dropped from the roof above.
When fixing the coax TV cable issue above, I noticed that the corner gutter downspout lower bracket had been damaged and was no longer connected to the house corner board. While the workers were installing the roof at that location I did see that the gutter downspout was pulled away from the corner board to facilitate the roofing installation. This downspout assembly is attached to the corner board with four Phillips head screws. The screws were still in place. I believe that there was no attempt to simply remove the screws and set aside the downspout to install the roof and then reinstall the downspout. It looks as if the downspout had been pulled back and forth until the bracket broke to enable the roof installation under the downspout.
While daily cleanup was generally good, it seems that the cleanup was concentrated on what a person walking about could see and be accomplished with a leaf blower. I found roofing material on top of window frames and bushes around the house.
Calls to get the job signed off by me followed, which I did not do because the job was not complete. I was still waiting for the agreed upon skylight and soffit vent work.
The SmartVent ?soffit vents? were included in the original contract. Communication indicated that the sales person didn?t write the order up properly to include the vents which was why they were not installed. Communication with the sales person later indicated that the SmartVent installation had been missed that on the order. I was beginning to see a series of ?it?s not my fault? excuses.
To finish the job, the skylight and the SmartVents needed to be installed. I received word on Tuesday they would be out Friday to install the skylight and SmartVents to finish the job. No one showed up Friday and I received a phone message Friday at 4:00 PM indicating that the skylight and SmartVents had been picked up and they would be out Saturday morning. I had been home all day Friday waiting for them.
Nearing the end of the work on Saturday I had a phone conversation with the Project Manger where he told me he?d be by at 11:00 to look things over. Later in the conversation he said 12:00. I had errands to run and waited for his arrival until 12:30. I got a phone call from him at 2:30 indicating he was on-site and wanted to get a sign-off on the job and payment since the work was complete.
Throughout the job I was asked to do things that I thought should be done by them. They found the skylight was not 2' x 4' and would need a "custom" skylight and that they were "expensive". They wanted to now if I had the model number of the skylight installed 25+ years ago. I did not, but performed minimal research and provided documentation of a standard Velux model that looked to fit the opening. I don't know if they used the information provided, but a Velux skylight is what was installed.
During the discussion of the SmartVents they wanted me to determine the cubic footage of the attic space to install adequate intake venting. I finally had to defer to them as I believed that it was their job to be sure they vented properly to GAF's specifications.
When the subject of the gutter downspout bracket issue came up, I was asked if I knew the damaged bracket part number. Needless to say I didn't as the gutters were custom installed years ago. They indicated they had a gutter installer that would take a look and see what was needed. The repair was done by the roof installers with different, Home Depot, type wrap around brackets, but I'll have to live with that.
I have to say the roof looks nice, and the actual installers did a good job, but we are happy that it is done. I will not deal with DaBella Exteriors or H&B Roofing again."
