"It was the most unpleasant stressfull experience I ever had! We agreed for 250$, guy come out with Husky dog, was smoking cigares while working. He knew house size, was here before. After work was done he asked for 400$!! When I asked why, he started to bully me, moved big heavy card on our parking lot, then asked for 500$ , and my credit card number. He also was threatening me that he will come back and brake my gutters! Scam! Awful services, not professional at all."

Gutters overflow in heavy rain for several reasons. The main reasons why your gutters could be overflowing in heavy rain include:

  • Not enough downspouts to effectively remove water from your gutters

  • Too small of a gutter width—the average gutter size is four to six inches

  • Clogged gutters

If you believe your gutters were installed incorrectly, it’s a good idea to know who to call for gutter leaks. Speak with a local gutter specialist to get to the bottom of your gutter system to stop water from flooding your property or yard ASAP.

It’s technically possible to remove some soffit material without removing your gutters, but it’s usually a good idea to remove gutters, fascia, and soffit and then reinstall them in the opposite order. Replacing soffits without removing gutters is likely to leave you with a less professional and clean appearance, and you’re more likely to do damage to your gutters and fascia boards in the process.

It is not recommended to clean gutters, or do any work on your roof for that matter, without the use of a ladder. Please make sure you have a spotter and avoid slippery surfaces when performing this task.

These two gutter material options are strong choices for your home, but there are a few key differences. Galvanized steel gutters are less expensive than aluminum gutters (usually $4 to $8 per linear foot) and are very durable—often proving sturdy even against falling tree branches. Galvanized steel, however, is prone to rust, while aluminum never rusts. If you need a more durable option, consider getting quotes for copper gutters cost or faux copper gutters cost.

While gutters aren't legally required for homeowners, they are considered essential for protecting homes against rot, mold, roof leaks, and foundation issues. Your home may be an exception if it's fully surrounded by concrete, sits at the top of a hill, has a 10-inch overhang, or stands in a practically rainless climate. If you've purchased a home that doesn't have gutters, it may be time to either learn how to install gutters or call in a local gutter company before you experience water damage.
