"This project was the second Fountain that we've had built by Marc and the Water Sourcers team. The first, a few years ago at our rental property, was a pretty straight forward waterfall with a pond. It remains the visual highlight of that yard. This most recent project, however, was much more ambitious - Marc had a vision for two separate ponds connected by a stream, with a large waterfall and a limestone bridge. It's amazing how Marc can look at a piece of natural landscape and in his mind's eye, he can see the potential of what it can become. The team absolutely transformed the yard and created a beautiful and contemplative living space - my wife and I have our coffee out by the waterfall every morning! The skill, experience, and care are unparalleled from this team - they know the best equipment, they are masterful with rock work, they take great care with the choice and placement of plant life, they create absolute living works of art with water, and are just all around amazing people."

Fountains questions, answered by experts

Whether a natural pool is worth it depends on several factors because they cost more than traditional pools. Many people opt for natural pools because they enjoy swimming in natural bodies of water such as lakes. Also, if you're environmentally conscious, a natural pool is going to be a much more attractive option than a traditional pool.

Moreover, for people with chemical sensitivities, a natural pool is a great solution since the water doesn’t contain chlorine.

Yes, it’s possible to DIY a plunge pool and shave labor costs off of the project total. If you’re considering a DIY build, keep in mind that you will be responsible for pool installation and landscaping (which may require excavation). This type of DIY project is best left to particularly handy homeowners who have prior pool installation experience.

While they’re popular and have a lot of pros, the cons of river rocks include the following:

  • River rocks don’t break down or provide nutrients to plants.

  • These stones can get hot and scorch nearby plants.

  • River stones may heat the surrounding soil to inhospitable temperatures.

  • Rocks can block rainwater from seeping into the ground if installations are too thick or tightly packed.

Most downsides occur when using river rock as mulch in gardens and flower beds. However, you can still incorporate river rocks into your landscape as long as you use them in the correct ways.

One reason you may want to fill in your pond is the cost of maintenance. Pond cleaning may cost about $1,000 for an annual cleanup, or monthly visits may cost $75 to $100 per visit. If you don’t want to spend that much per year on pond upkeep, you may consider filling in your pond.

When deep cleaning your koi pond, transfer fish to a clean, uncontaminated container at least one foot deep, like a large bucket, tub, or kiddie pond. Fill the container with their existing pond water to avoid shocking them, and place the container in full or partial shade. When it’s time to reintroduce them into the pond, slowly add the new water to the container before adding the fish and container water back into the pond.
