The number one downside to installing a pot filler is the cost. It’s extremely useful to have a pot filler over a stove, and if you’re someone who can’t lift heavy pots due to an injury or other issue, they can make an enormous difference in both the comfort and safety of your kitchen. Once they are installed, they are difficult to move, so if you’re considering one, make sure it’s exactly where you want it before beginning work.

The air admittance valve, or AAV, is a spring-loaded mini-vent that sits right next to your washer. It acts in place of a standard vent stack connection, opening to let air into the drain whenever pressure builds up. It otherwise stays closed to prevent sewer gas from escaping into your home. This gives the washer’s plumbing system the air it needs when water enters or drains.

You can stop a leak with plumber’s tape, but it’s not a recommended way to repair a leak. To install it, you have to dismantle the plumbing connection, apply plumber’s tape, and then re-install the pieces. 

There are better options for a temporary fix for leaking pipes, such as repair sleeves, epoxy compounds, or pipe clamps.
