"Due to a poor installation of the ceramic tiles when our home was built, we had to have several tiles in our kitchen replaced. Simon quickly gave us a quote and the job cost exactly what he originally quoted. Kyle came to do the repair. We cannot say enough good about Kyle and the job he did. Our kitchen floor looks great and you cannot any difference between the original tile and the repair job. The quote stated it might make three days to complete the job but Kyle finished in one afternoon. We are so pleased with the outcome."

Small jobs welcome

"Grout and Granite Restorations did a fantastic job repairing cracks and a broken tile in my 20 year old limestone tile floor. The floor had never been thoroughly cleaned and looked terrible after we moved all the furniture out of the house. There were many stains and worn areas in addition to the cracks and broken tile mentioned above. Michael came in and repaired the damaged areas and then meticulously cleaned the floor. Natural stone is extremely absorbent and I knew that all of the stains would not come out but was surprised to see the stains were either completely gone or barely detectable. After that, the floor was honed and polished to the original satin finish. The worst areas in the high traffic hallway looked incredible and were restored to their natural beauty. I would highly recommend Grout and Granite Restorations."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The difference between floor and wall tiles is that floor tiles generally have higher strength and porosity ratings than wall tiles. Wall tiles are typically weaker and more likely to crack or become damaged under sustained pressure like high foot traffic.

For this reason, avoid using wall tiles on floors and vice versa.

Tile installation can be expensive because it requires more time and labor to install than many other materials. For example, laminate flooring can click and lock into place, and carpet comes in large rolls that you can secure to the floor. On the other hand, tiles need to be cut, laid individually, grouted, and left to cure.

Porcelain countertops have a fairly long life span, sometimes lasting for decades. Depending on how much wear and tear you put your countertops through, it could last 25 to 50 years. But be warned, porcelain is also prone to cracking, so as long as you take good care of it, you’ll have those countertops looking brand new for years to come.

It’s not a good idea to lay tile and grout on the same day. The adhesive or thin-set that sticks the tiles to the surface needs plenty of time to dry before you can grout. Wait for 24 to 48 hours, depending on moisture levels in the space. The tiles can become misaligned and more prone to damage if you don’t wait.

Porcelain tiles can last 60 years or longer. With high-quality tiles and proper installation, your porcelain tiles may even outlive you, making them well worth the initial investment.

To help your porcelain tiles last longer, you should clean and maintain them regularly. You don’t need any harsh chemicals to get the job done. Rather, use a cloth, hot water, and mild detergent. And don’t forget to learn how to clean floor tile grout, as that’s just as important as tile maintenance.
