"Bathroom remodel: the backsplash was put on with the front facing side against the wall. I had to reorder more and tell them how to do it. Tile installed on floor and shower. Told me to order the wrong amount. I had to reorder more which came from a different batch and didn’t match exactly. Approximately 4 years after remodel the grout started failing. I now have many places with no grout and it’s getting worse. I can’t even find anyone who is willing to fix the mess they created. I highly recommend anyone to find another contractor for any work needed. Terrible work"

A cement backer board is not needed for laying tile on concrete. Sometimes referred to as a cementitious backer unit, or CBU, backer board should be used if the subfloor is plywood or OSB. The backer board provides a base on which to install the tiles that isn’t as likely to be damaged by any accidental water seepage as natural materials would be.

Slate is pricier than many other flooring materials, but it’s not the most expensive option on the market. Stone can last anywhere from 15 to 100 years before it needs to be restored. You should clean your stone flooring or countertops regularly using cleaners designed for stone surfaces. Stay on top of vacuuming to prevent scratches from deteriorating stone faster, deep clean your stone surfaces using a pH-neutral cleaning solution at least once a year, and reseal the stone every one to five years, depending on foot traffic or usage.

Installing kitchen countertop tiles on a mold and moisture-resistant cement backer board is one of the best options. When fitted correctly on top of a plywood base, it’s stable and long-lasting. Old-fashioned cement board is economical, cuts neatly and easily with a circular or jigsaw, and screws into plywood without any difficulty.
