"Price was a bit higher than some but in the middle overall. Had quotes from $1900-$5100. Project included pressure wash, scraping, some wood replacement/repair, caulking of all joints, painting with quality satin finish Sherwin Williams exterior. One color change for front door. Prep was done in one day. Wood repairs and 95% of painting done day two. Finish painting and clean up morning of day three. Great quality and workers. TCB coordinated schedule with gutter company so painting was done after gutters came down and then new gutters were installed after painting completed."

While you can perform minor siding repairs or even install it yourself over small areas, it is generally best to hire a professional siding company. The money saved on a DIY project may not be worth the time and potential risks of improper installation.

You may only need to repaint fiber cement siding every decade or so, but you should clean it every six to 12 months, depending on your local climate. First, wash with a garden hose or similar low-pressure device (not a high-pressure washer, which can damage the material) to remove dirt and any large debris. Then, gently wipe down the surface with a soft brush or cloth in a side-to-side motion, following the grain of the fiber cement.

Although dish soap will work to clean some of the grime off the aluminum siding, it may not kill mold and mildew as efficiently as a cleaning solution you can buy at a hardware store. If you have oily or greasy substances on the aluminum siding, rather than mold and mildew, dish soap should work extremely well.

The best types of siding to withstand hail are fiber cement siding and engineered wood siding. Fiber cement siding is known for impact resistance, while some brands of engineered wood siding can withstand hail as big as 1 and 3/4 inches with no marks. Vinyl and aluminum siding are the most susceptible to hail.

Vinyl can withstand many different cleaning methods, but there are two things you need to be wary of. First, particularly harsh chemicals will damage your vinyl siding and reduce its lifespan. Second, be careful about pressure washing your vinyl siding. Vinyl can resist powerful washing damage more than softer siding like wood, but high levels of pressure can still crack it.
