"Very satisfied with Curtis and his crew. Professional and courteous. Removed 2 huge cottonwoods just feet from my front door. Have an expensive metal shake roof I was concerned about because trees hung so far over roof. House was originally built next to trees in 1978. The use of a crane put me at ease and Curtis and his entire crew were safety aware. Watched almost entire process with utmost respect for their work and knowledge. Would definitely recommend this crew to anyone that asked. They went so far as to place plywood between stumps and front door, windows, and stone to protect from stump grinding. Could not be happier!"

"Chad did a very good job getting all the weeds and ivy out, but left some partly buried railroad ties and the re-bar holding them in.  We may not have told him clearly enough that we wanted that removed, too, but he could also have questioned my wife about it.  We got the work done through an Angie's List coupon, so it's also possible we had used up the time allotted for the price, but we don't know for sure.  Chad did offer to come back and haul away the railroad ties and larger plant material he cleared if we couldn't get the city to pick it up, which we appreciate.  He also suggested using an herbicide on the roots left behind, which we may not have thought of."

Garbage Removal questions, answered by experts

There are many maintenance and repair issues that lead to a malfunctioning garbage disposal. Regular clogs place wear and tear on the motors, leading to an eventual shutdown. Electrical issues at the breaker, wall outlet, or disposal itself can fry the unit. The most common cause is simply a worn-down motor. These motors can only handle so much use before powering down for good.

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.

The main issue with garbage disposals is clogging. This can mean a clogging of the pipes that expel the food along with water, or a clogging of the mechanical parts themselves. The problem lies in the solution because you can’t easily see clogs if they’re inside the system, and reaching in to dislodge stuck items is a risky proposal. Call a pro and ask what they would do, but if you can’t see the clog easily, and running the unit won’t free it, you need to let a professional handle the fix.

The two main negatives of garbage disposals are they are a safety hazard in homes with children, and they frequently encounter blockage issues. While they might be annoying to fix and monitor, garbage disposals can significantly lower your trash use and are a great way to dispose of organic waste. While there are negatives, the vast majority of homeowners acknowledge the positives are enough to install a disposal in their home.

Most garbage disposals have a reset button that can be triggered with a tool as simple and accessible as your index finger. That said, if you need to perform a more in-depth troubleshooting step, like manually moving the arms inside the unit or rotating the impeller plate, a hex wrench is the most common tool you’ll need. Most garbage disposals come with a hex wrench.
