"They came a day early. Were very professional and did excellent work. The Southside Excavating did an excellent job at reasonable price for installing a toilet in our bathroom."

"Top notch land and lot clearing did a great job clearing my lots. They were very prompt in reaching out when I did an online inquiry. They had someone out to do an estimate the next day. I was able to book the job and they had equipment out with in the next two days to do the job. They were very reasonable with pricing that I was actually surprised. The two gentlemen that came out and did the work were very professional and seemed very experienced. I would recommend them to anyone."

"One of the most driven young men Iâ ve come across. I hired him to remove an old 12x20 shed and he was in and out before i arrived home from work. Within the following weeks be returned to lay stone around my home and build a fire pit where the shed used to be. When it comes to landscaping or machine work, heâ s the guy to call."

"Durastruct remodeled my kitchen cabinets for me. They were easily the nicest group of guys to work with. They gave me exactly what I wanted and did it quickly. Scott was not only funny but very knowledgeable and reasonably priced. I would hire these guys again in a heartbeat. They were clean and neat while they worked. By far my best experience with any type of remodeling and will hire them again when it's time to do my bathroom. You will not be disappointed with their work."

"I am from out of town and located Junk Jeeves on the internet. I was looking for a company to remove furniture and junk left by renters. I called and talked to a lady on the phone and within no time I received a call back. The next day , the truck arrived at my rental house in Niles and the house was emptied. Mike and Tyler who came to the house were extremely professional and pleasant. I would highly recommend Junk Jeeves for anyone who needs items removed from their property and the price was great!!!"

"I took all the trees and shrubs around the front and sides of my house out as they did nothing for the new siding I just put in. Zach came over and we talked about how we could make the landscape look. He told me they could get to me in November. Sure enough he called and his crew along with him showed up and proceeded to transform a dull lifeless landscape into a work of art."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Older homes in Hubbard feature fieldstone foundations and outdated clay tile sewer lines that require extra care during excavating. Narrow residential lots near downtown restrict heavy equipment access, forcing contractors to use compact machinery or dig by hand. Additionally, properties near the Shenango River face high water tables and saturated soils, which increase the risk of trench wall collapse and demand careful site preparation.

Helpful?

The freeze-thaw cycles and heavy lake-effect snow in Hubbard severely limit winter digging. Rapid snowmelt floods open trenches, while wet spring weather saturates the local clay, causing dangerous trench wall instability. During dry summers, this same clay shrinks and cracks, shifting previously stable soil. Schedule your excavating between May and September to ensure optimal soil workability, safer temperature stability, and better compaction results.

Helpful?

Directing your downspouts or sump pump discharge toward recently backfilled areas accelerates soil erosion and ruins recent excavating work. Parking heavy vehicles over fresh trenches before the soil fully compacts causes immediate damage. You must also manage aggressive tree roots from native Ohio species, as planting trees too close to buried utilities causes severe long-term displacement. Always inspect your grading annually for freeze-thaw damage.

Helpful?

After finishing any excavating, schedule a final inspection with the local building department before backfilling. Regrade the soil to slope away from your foundation to prevent water from pooling in the heavy clay. Monitor the backfilled zones closely throughout the first full winter in OH. Watch for any sudden settlement, frost heave, or drainage issues that appear after the seasonal freeze-thaw cycles conclude.

Helpful?

Success with excavating depends heavily on managing the clay-heavy glacial till found in Hubbard. This soil expands when wet and contracts when dry, making proper compaction essential. You must also contact the 811 call-before-you-dig system at least 48 hours beforehand to avoid striking unmarked utility lines. Finally, ensure all footings and buried utilities sit below the 36-inch OH frost line to prevent damaging frost heave over time.
