Small business. Family owned third generation in the construction & home improvement field.

"Vic Sanders Contracting** was hired in late January and he promised the job could easily be done in 4-6 weeks. He did not meet that date and then gave us an additional 10 days which was April 1. That date was not met either and he didn’t promised it would be finished by the end of the week which would have been April 13. In May we terminated his services due to the workmanship and mess left at the job site. continually. We had to hire new contractors to come in and fix work they had done and work that was still left undone. Mr. Sanders constantly strung me and my husband along while making excuses and blaming things on others. He and his crew would leave the inside and outside of my house a complete wreck that I would have to clean every time I came to Bryson City. We have now hired new people to redo and finish the poor job of painting, trim and Sheetrock, stair treads, pickets, and 2nd set of newels we had to purchase, some tile work, and floor that was not finished on edge of stairs, etc. Unfortunately, I would not recommend his services and I would hate to see him do this to someone else."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.

Permits may be required for major repairs, structural work, or electrical and plumbing restoration after a flood. Check with your local building department to determine permit requirements and associated fees for your flooded basement cleanup project. Obtaining the correct permits helps ensure work is done safely and up to code.

You can paint your ceiling or install a drywall ceiling if the ceiling is unfinished, as they take up less headroom than drop ceilings.

If there are pipes in the way of ceiling installation, you can do one of two things: reroute the pipes or adjust the installation to fit, which will cost extra.

For most basement remodels, you’ll want to hire a general contractor. This is for a number of reasons, but the main two are that general contractors have dedicated teams they are comfortable with, and hiring one means you only have to deal with one pro. You may also get a better project quote since they can lump all their work and subcontracting into a single quote.

In addition to overseeing new home builds, construction managers work on large renovations and major remodels. For example, they may work with designers and oversee the construction of a finished basement, kitchen renovation, or a home addition. They may also oversee large-scale remodels, such as the update of a historic home. Construction managers step into small projects for more specific assistance, such as building budgets and compiling the team.
