"John did an excellent job of refinishing the hardwood floors in a house I just purchased in Lakewood. They took out the old carpet upstairs which revealed an old Lakewood hardwood floor with some rough spots. After John finished the job you would not be able to tell anything was wrong. I am very satisfied with the end result. John was also very easy to work with - I left a lockbox at the house and had complete peace of mind. Would definitely recommend John and his team for any flooring job."

"We had a great experience with Floor Coverings International – Cleveland South. We selected our flooring in the showroom with sales representative John, who was professional, knowledgeable, and worked with us to come up with a cost-effective flooring solution that met our needs without sacrificing quality. Communication was clear and consistent throughout the process, including coordination with both me and our Trade Pro insurance intermediary. The entire team was highly professional and very knowledgeable about the products and installation process. Scheduling was convenient and flexible thanks to service manager Nick, which made everything run smoothly. The installation crew was outstanding — Daniel and Samuel were courteous, efficient, and delivered excellent workmanship. They kept the worksite clean, worked long hours, and ensured the job was completed on time. The finished result looks amazing. We would absolutely recommend this team and would use them again without"

Customers say: Quick response

"I am so impressed with their work! We had some hideous pre finished floors in the house we bought. Once they started the job, the floor weren't sanding like they expected. They had to do a lot more work to get the floors back in decent shape and applied a clear coat and varnish. Yheu honored the quoted price and worked so hard to do it right, even though it added a couple days to the job. I love how the floors turned out! I wouldn't trust anyone else to refinish hardwood floors. These guys are pros."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

A transition piece between carpet stairs and wood flooring isn't always necessary. A transition piece separates two types of flooring in between rooms and areas, like carpet and vinyl. Because the carpet on the stairs tucks into the seam, you can’t see the fringes, and there is no need to hide anything. However, you can use a stair cap if your stairs have a nose.

Laminate flooring takes about 24 to 48  hours to settle. Before this, planks are not completely acclimated to your home, and walking on them could cause shifting and permanent damage to the flooring. You should allow floorboards to acclimate for 48 to 72 hours before installing so that they can adjust to your home’s humidity and temperature levels, but they will continue to acclimate and settle after installation. For this reason, avoid placing any furniture in the room for 72 hours after installation.

Your floors will continue to settle for a few months after installation, becoming less bouncy as they rest.

The best underlayment for carpet on concrete is a sponge rubber underlayment. This type of carpet padding is durable enough to endure wear and tear on hard concrete yet soft enough to provide comfort underfoot. It also creates insulation from sound and temperature, providing warmth despite the concrete’s cold surface.

No subflooring is perfectly level, but you should never ignore any noticeable floor sagging. Most contractors deem a floor that slopes by a 1/2 inch to 1 inch per 20 feet of floor acceptable. Further investigation is required when the slope or sag is more than one and a half inches.

No, squeaky floors do not always mean there is structural damage. The noise is often caused by friction from issues like loose floorboards, gaps between the subfloor and joists, or loose subflooring. While many squeaks are harmless, persistent or worsening noise could indicate a more severe problem. If you notice other signs of structural damage—such as soft or sagging floors, cracks running from the wall to the ceiling, or horizontal cracks in your foundation—it's best to have a professional inspect your floor to determine the root cause.
