He captured two more kits and told me to call him again if I heard any more sounds. There weren’t any more and I was impressed that he still called to follow up. I was completely satisfied with his humane methods of removing the animals from my property."

We met with Matt for the estimate, and he walked us through all the possibilities and options (both good and bad). "W & W Plumbing completely saved me. To make a very long story short, we were trying to fix a plumbing problem ourselves (on a Friday at 6pm) and hit a water line. I called everywhere, and the prices were absolutely insane just to fix the pipe damage we caused (not even addressing the problem we were trying to fix). And then, A few of my neighbors recommended W & W and Joe Woosley (owner) came out to my house within 30 minutes of my phone call. What I thought would be just him coming to fix what we broke - he ended up repairing that in minutes and then asking what we were trying to fix (roots). He put a camera down and we found multiple problems. I thought he would simply give me a quote and continue to the rest of his day but he started to fix my problems on the spot. He was there all day and made me a priority to help me as best as he could. When all was said and done, he even addressed some other indoor plumbing issues I had after a long, hard day of work he had done. He did everything I needed in 1 day and for a fraction of the cost. You don't see too many genuine business owners who are honest with you from the start. I could not have been more pleased. The first rule of knowing how to install gutters is that water coming from gutters should be directed 4 feet to 6 feet away from your home. Depending on the specifics of your property, water can be directed to a cistern, municipal drainage ditch, or the street. Water should never be directed toward a neighbor's yard.

Gutter life expectancy depends on the material used. Aluminum gutters last up to 25 years, while galvanized steel lasts between 15 to 20 years. Copper gutters are the most durable, with a lifespan nearing 100 years. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and inspecting for leaks, can extend lifespans.

Choose a tool that suits the type of gutters you have. Aluminum or copper gutters can be cut easily with tin snips, aviation snips, hacksaws, or jigsaws (provided they have a metal-cutting blade). Tin snips are used the most often, but they also require the most physical effort. With steel or zinc gutters, you’ll want a stronger tool like a power saw.

If you’re not interested in digging up your yard, but you still need to direct water away from your house, another option is to extend your downspouts further out into the yard. Two methods to do this are:

  • Adding a splashguard. This is the simplest method. You can purchase a splashguard at your local hardware store and place it under your downspout. This will act as a funnel to direct water away from your house.

  • Add downspout extension at the end. You can also add an additional downspout to the end of the “elbow” as a way to extend the water further out into your yard. Some hardware stores sell downspouts with a flexible extension that you can maneuver around your yard.

The above alternatives are great options if your gutters are above a slab foundation that you wouldn’t want to dig up. One downside to these methods is if your yard slopes back upwards to your home, then the water won’t actually flow away. In which case, burying your downspouts if the best option to avoid flooding and water damage to your home.

Gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year, in the spring and in the fall, to remove the debris from trees that can clog the eavestroughs and downspouts. Debris like leaves, twigs, and seed pods can build up and cause your gutters to overflow, potentially causing damage to your roof and foundation. Water backing up under the shingles can rot the edge of your roofline. Overflow water falling next to your foundation can end up leaking into your basement or crawl space.
