"It went very well. While they were not always able to be exactly on time, they were never very late. They cleaned up each evening before leaving so that we didn't have to deal with a lot of mess. They laid the tile is beautifully including in the shower surround. Everything was done to the scale of perfection and they would have used on their own homes. The workers we're very friendly, courteous and respectful. They were willing to take feedback as they worked and incorporated all the changes that I asked for. "I met Jill at our home and she took measurements and photos of our sons' room. We talked briefly about my ideas for the space. She provided several concept boards, for window treatments, furniture, and an overall "look" for the rooms. She also provided us with floor plans for each room. She brought paint colors, fabric selections, etc. Our first job with Jill was our sons' room. For the playroom, she had some pretty unique ideas that were right in line with the contemporary- but not too modern- look we wanted. She helped me with tips on doing some of the decorative painting myself, but also provided a few resources in case we wanted to hire the job out. She also helped me coordinate a subcontractor who handled a set of beautiful custom blinds. Jill tells me that in some cases she handles all the shopping, but that's part of the fun for me so she provided a list of links and stores for the items she chose. She gave a few choices for almost every item- budget and higher end. That allowed me to meet my budget while still getting some showstopper items, because we were able to save in other areas. Within a few weeks the room came together and got rave reviews after I posted the before and after photos on Facebook. And of course our visitors were amazed at the transformation. In the interim, we were redoing our guest bathroom on our own, and Jill was able to come into the project to help us choose tiles, wall colors, and vanity choices. A quick job that turned out really well considering the turn around time. A few months later we hired Jill again to rethink our living room and dining room. We were on a much more limited budget for both rooms but wanted to see what she could come up with considering some challenges in both the shape of the rooms and that I wanted to integrate some antique pieces we already owned. She came up with a brilliant look that blended our older pieces with a contemporary and clean look and we came in well under budget. Working with Jill was a lot of fun and we expect to continue to work with her to refine the look of our home. When I was considering hiring an interior designer I was worried about my low budget and lack of experience hiring someone to make these kind of choices for me. But it turned out to be the best decision we've ever made for our home because she allowed us to transform each area well under budget and much more quickly than we ever could have done on our own (well, we would have taken forever to make a decision on every item!). "The gutters on my home started sagging last year during a brutal ice storm. Large icicles formed that pulled them down and away from the roof in places. Rainwater would pour out of the gutters in these areas, creating a waterfall effect. I don't know why I put off calling to get them repaired. I contacted Mr. Machen, who was very friendly on the phone, approximately two weeks before the work was actually performed. We made an appointment for a few days later for him to come out and give me an estimate. There was a problem the day he was supposed to come out and we rescheduled for a few days later. When he came out, he was again very nice and polite. He took a look and gave me an estimate for the work which I thought was a great price. He was back less than a week later to repair and clean the gutters. He and his helper re-attached the parts of the gutters that were coming loose and then cleaned the gutters. They made sure there was no debris left anywhere on my property after cleaning them too. When I took a look at the gutters (from the ground), you couldn't even tell which parts had been sagging. The work was excellent. I paid exactly the estimated price. It's been a week since the work was done and it has rained A LOT since then. The water drains the way it's supposed to now. I am very pleased with the job that was done and will definitely call these guys up again for more work. In fact, while Mr. Machen was here giving me the estimate for the gutter work, I asked if he would take a look at my bathtub too. I need to have the faucet replaced and have the entire surrounding area re-grouted and re-caulked. I think the estimate he gave me for that work was fair and I will be contacting him within the next few weeks to schedule an appointment."
