"Adam and his team did a great job. After contacting him, we received a quick and clear estimate and then was able to have the job done less than a week later. His team did a wonderful job and the deck looks very clean now. Everything went very smoothly."

"Camera inspection revealed cracked flu liner in chimney. Recommended heat shield application for cracks in flu. Fill voids with high temp mortar. Chimney was not up to code due to cracks. Technician was on time, professional and very careful to keep work area clean. Kept me informed and showed me the problems on camera monitor. Was quoted a reasonable price and work was completed quickly to my complete satisfaction. We are now able to enjoy our fireplace again. I like using a local company and would recommend Mid-Valley to anyone."

"Faith and her sister cleaned my house incredibly well in a reasonable amount of time. They were able to get surfaces clear and sparkling that had been riddled with hard well water. They were both very friendly and kind. It was a pleasure having them in my home to help create a clean and inviting space. They also used higher end cleaning products and were conscientious of using the appropriate product on certain surfaces. I look forward to having Faith back in a few weeks."

"These guys did a great job. My in-laws house had mildew on one side with the other sides looking extremely dingy. The guys at Brighter Day went above and beyond, cleaning all siding, soffits, windows, and patio. Very impressed. I would highly recommend them."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Whether to paint or stain a deck depends on your personal preference for appearance and budget. Stain provides a natural look with a range of undertones, is typically less expensive, and may only require one coat, but it does not last as long as paint. Paint offers a sleeker finish with a virtually unlimited color palette. Both options will protect your deck from outdoor elements like rain, snow, and general wear and tear.

Building a deck without a permit could lead to fines for both the homeowner and the contractor. The exact penalties will depend on your state and municipal building laws. You might also be required to remove the deck and apply for a permit before you can build another. While it might be tempting to skip the permit to save a few bucks, it’ll cost you much more if you’re caught.

Floating decks are a cost-effective and versatile option, but they come with some compromises. Since they sit on smaller footings instead of being deeply anchored, they’re more likely to shift over time, especially in areas with heavy rainfall or freeze-thaw conditions. Their low-to-the-ground design makes them more susceptible to moisture buildup and potential water damage.

Building codes for deck railings can vary by location, so it's important to consult your local regulations before construction. Generally, a guardrail is required for any deck that is more than 30 inches above the ground.

For residential properties, the standard minimum height for a deck railing is 36 inches. However, some states and municipalities have stricter requirements; for example, California and Washington mandate railings that are at least 42 inches high. Therefore, a 42-inch railing is not considered too high and may be required in your area or chosen voluntarily for additional safety.

In addition to height requirements, codes also specify other safety features, such as the maximum spacing between balusters to ensure they are close enough to prevent a child from squeezing through.

A deck doesn’t have to be perfectly level. Many pros even recommend a gentle slope to ensure proper drainage and increase longevity. The ideal gentle slope is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot away from the property, leading water away from the home to prevent pooling and reduce the risk of damage. It also minimizes rot, mold, and other moisture-related problems.
