"I wanted to have this done in a shorter timeframe. He had an employee paint our stairway. Unfortunately, the guy didnâ t do a good job. I could see through the paint. It definitely needed a second coat. I called the owner and he said he would come and paint it himself. He was working other jobs inside and outside so the weather dictated where he could work. It took longer than we anticipated but heâ s finishing the job himself."

"Could not have asked for better more professional workmanship. Serge and Nick were always on time and worked from the moment that arrived to the moment they left. When the left the room was clean and Serge was good about explaining what had been done and what they would be doing the next day.The room looks fantastic; better than i ever would have expected. I will definitely hire them back again for our next remodeling project."

"Austin is a dedicated, old fashioned carpenter who can do everything from carpentry to roofing to electrical work. My project was a total apartment renovation and involved a complete new bathroom, kitchen and gut rehab of the living room and both bedrooms. The results were outstanding and I would not hesitate to hire him for another project."

Woodworking FAQs, answered by experts

Carpenters are trained to take on a wide range of home projects. You can hire a carpenter to do framing, roofing, build custom furniture, and make significant upgrades to your home. General carpenters are usually able to handle most jobs. However, you may also choose to hire a carpenter who specializes in a specific type of carpentry.

Spindles on a deck may also be called balusters or pickets. While not as important to the structural support of the deck as the rail posts, they play a critical role in ensuring the deck is safe to use by closing in large gaps in the railing. For this reason, balusters must be no more than 4 inches away from one another.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.
