"Tony M. Is very professional. In all my remodels over 20 years (house, condo), all was according to specifications, just like I hoped and I was extremely satisfied. He gutted the master bathroom, knocked a wall down between the bathroom and walk in closet, build up walls to enclose two closets with mirror doors to hide the clutter and enlarge the bathroom space. He put wall and floor tile to create a lipless shower stall with ADA grab bar. He put in a new vanity, mirror, light fixtures and toilet. It looks amazing. See photos. His fees are reasonable. He keeps accounts and has clear billing. He works cleanly and cleans up at the end of each day. He is respectful of his clients and provides helpful advice on the project to avoid potential problems the client might not have thought of in the project plan, or to improve the plan. ( In my previous house, he put in a skylight in the master bathroom that was amazing). He is pleasant and is absolutely trustworthy. I highly recommend him."

"Chris was very motivated and started the job promptly. His work ethic was great, staying late a couple of days late to complete job on time as agreed. He reviewed any issue found and was flexible when extra work was needed. The quality of the work was great in making the breezeway siding look the same as the garage, so with the paint job the house/garage improvement was dramatic. His pricing was reasonably and his clean-up appreciated. We would definitely recommend Chris to others and would engage him for work ourselves."

"This review is late but needs to be stated. I have never been treated as well as Jeff and Dave treated us. They were fair, fast, and went above and beyond. The deck was amazing and the office looks like a King’s court. Thank you guys for the service, the craftsmanship, and the friendship. Highly recommend J&D Chris"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can build a deck around a fire pit, as long as it is safely enclosed, meets code requirements, and is at least 15 feet away from your home. You’ll want to ensure you have a heat-resistant barrier between the fire pit and your deck to prevent any structural damage and fires. A galvanized ring surrounded by pavers, brick, or stone makes for a beautiful, safe, and sturdy design.

Yes, but ensuring the deck has a solid foundation with adequate footings is critical before building, as the weight of a sunroom will put significant pressure on the structure below. Even if your deck is properly constructed, it may not be able to handle the extra weight. While some basic, lightweight, prefabricated sunrooms can sit on a deck with a strong existing foundation without additional supports, in many cases, the foundation and joists will need reinforcement. It is always best to have a structural engineer perform an inspection to evaluate the deck's quality and structural integrity. A professional can help you decide if reinforcement is sufficient or if it's better to tear down the deck and start over.

Staining and sealing the underside of a deck creates a moisture barrier but traps water in the boards, quickly leading to rot. No matter how well you seal the above deck, water still gets through via nails and screw heads on the surface. Allow this water to flow naturally under the deck, where it is routed through the drainage system.

Pressure-treated decking may be worth it if you want a natural, insect- and rot-resistant decking material that will last for decades with proper maintenance. As such, it’s a much better option than untreated pine. Alternative wood decking materials like cedar and redwood tend to be less durable and more expensive. Some homeowners prefer composite decking, which is a low-maintenance alternative to wood but is also more costly.

Building codes for deck railings can vary by location, so it's important to consult your local regulations before construction. Generally, a guardrail is required for any deck that is more than 30 inches above the ground.

For residential properties, the standard minimum height for a deck railing is 36 inches. However, some states and municipalities have stricter requirements; for example, California and Washington mandate railings that are at least 42 inches high. Therefore, a 42-inch railing is not considered too high and may be required in your area or chosen voluntarily for additional safety.

In addition to height requirements, codes also specify other safety features, such as the maximum spacing between balusters to ensure they are close enough to prevent a child from squeezing through.
