"Anton is a first class craftsman and his team is super detail oriented! When he first came into look at the mess we were dealing with he had no worries and had a plan for everything. We worked along side him and I was really amazed with his work arounds and attention to detail. He went above and beyond to keep the entire project under budget and even did more work because he did not like how some things looked. I wouldn’t even bother with anyone else. You’ll be sorry if you pass on Anton. He is a real diamond in the rough! I cannot say enough good things about Anton and European Craftman and Remodeling."

"Jose is a superb woodworker and delightful human being. His prices are reasonable, he listens carefully, communicates well, delivers on time, is responsible and reliable and is a very creative problem solver. The quality of the finished work is excellent. I had him build several custom pieces for my very small â  tiny houseâ  space with some tricky spacing problems to solve - two storage beds, another unique triangular â  broom closetâ  on wheels that fit under my stairs, and an additional side storage bench on wheels. I would highly recommend him as a woodworker and especially skilled at solving tricky built-in projects."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

It is common for a contractor to ask for a down payment before starting a project, especially for jobs that require purchasing materials and equipment or hiring a crew. The deposit amount can range from 10% to 50% of the total job cost. While a request for up to 50% is not unusual, a contractor should not ask for more than that, and you should never pay for a project in full before the work has begun. To protect yourself, always discuss payment terms before starting and have a written contract that outlines the project timeline and expectations. Additionally, be sure to hire reputable contractors and check their licensing and insurance before the project begins.

Yes, carpenters can fix squeaky floors. They have the expertise to identify the source of the squeak, whether it’s loose floorboards, subfloor issues, or joist problems. These experts also have the right tools and hands-on knowledge to secure the flooring and eliminate the noise, ensuring a long-lasting solution.

Spindles on a deck may also be called balusters or pickets. While not as important to the structural support of the deck as the rail posts, they play a critical role in ensuring the deck is safe to use by closing in large gaps in the railing. For this reason, balusters must be no more than 4 inches away from one another.

Professionals ensure precise alignment and durability, critical for structural integrity.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.
