"Unfortunately I have to give Thomas and his nephew Sherman 3 out of 5 stars. I say unfortunately bc they were very nice and professional in their demeanor and response times to my initial quote request and during the prep process. Sherman had a lovely demeanor and tried hard. That said, I hired them to professionally paint 3 pieces of furniture (one wood console and 2 metal table frames). Thomas was helpful in guiding me on what primer and paint to purchase at the Benjamin Moore store. They were also flexible on the start time (I needed to do a later afternoon start). Sadly, they were rushed as a result of starting late and prepping my apartment was done poorly. There was paint spray from the spray gun all over my floors, walls and other furniture that was not covered. Upon inspecting the table frame that they claimed was done I noticed that half of the table was not painted properly. As though not enough paint was sprayed on the area and it looked light. Sherman went over those areas with a paint brush but it didn t turn out perfectly. It was oil based paint, took forever to dry and about 2 days in post painting, the legs were completely smudged (badly). The wooden console was nearly a disaster. Paint all over the floor and glass doors which came off eventually but I cleaned it myself. The paint bubbles up in some places and it looked cheaply done. Sherman did come back 2 days later to touch up and clean the mess on the floor. But I d say the damage was done at this point. I ll most likely look to have the wood console re done at some point by another painter. It looks cheap and like a rush job. I know they claimed that it was too dark in my apartment to see well. It may have been but the outcome was poor nonetheless. If you hire Thomas and Sherman, make sure they prep your home thoroughly and that you are overseeing the job. You may risk a poorly done job."

Customers say: True professional

"OnCall Wallpaper has done 7 separate jobs for me- each one more increasingly difficult than the next and each one executed flawlessly which is why we keep coming back!! Gerard is a true pleasure to work with, he is professional, courteous, kind and has very fair, competitive and reasonable pricing. He truly wants to make projects work for his customers. Him and his crew are true masters at their skill - we’ve had him hang high end custom murals, grass cloth, extremely intricate designs that required precise and very difficult matching, strange shaped rooms, small rooms and gigantic rooms, repair work to existing wallpaper, and rooms that needed a ton of wall prep work before they could be wallpapered. Gerard and his team have completed each with stunning precision and care, and in very timely turnarounds. Crew is extremely kind, friendly and tidy. If you are looking for a high end experience, and want your project to come out more beautiful than expected every time- look no further than OnCall for all of your wallpaper needs- no matter the difficulty or size of the project!"

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Yes, many types of peel-and-stick wallpaper can be used in bathrooms, especially those made of vinyl or polyester. However, its success depends heavily on the level of moisture and ventilation. In bathrooms with good ventilation, such as those with fans, it can be a durable option. Peel-and-stick wallpaper may not adhere as well as traditional wallpaper in very humid conditions. For bathrooms that see a lot of moisture, like a kids' bathroom or a full bath with a steamy shower and poor ventilation, even high-quality peel-and-stick wallpaper is likely to peel over time.

Darker walls may make tight bathrooms appear even smaller, but one dark accent wall can really make a bathroom pop. Wallpaper with a dark background can add intrigue and sophistication. Still, if you’re looking to open the room up and give it a modern, airy feeling, light colors may work best for your needs. Although there are some popular and unpopular opinions, there’s really no “should” when it comes to personal design choice.

Peel-and-stick wallpaper is designed to be removed without damaging walls, making it a good choice for renters or temporary design changes. However, damage to paint or drywall can occur under certain conditions. To prevent issues, the wall surface must be properly prepared before application—it should be clean, smooth, dry, and correctly primed or painted. Applying wallpaper to a freshly painted surface can cause the paint to peel off during removal. Additionally, removing the wallpaper too quickly or aggressively can also cause damage. For best results, always follow the manufacturer's instructions for both application and removal.

Yes, you can apply peel-and-stick wallpaper over wood paneling, but it requires significant preparation for a good result. Peel-and-stick wallpaper has a weaker adhesive than traditional wallpaper and works best on smooth, non-textured surfaces like painted or primed drywall. Because wood paneling is often textured with grooves, any flaws in the underlying surface will likely be visible after application. To prepare the paneling, you must ensure the surface is free of cracks, holes, and protrusions by filling any indentations and sanding rough spots to create a smooth surface. An alternative is to remove the paneling and apply the wallpaper directly to the underlying drywall or plaster, provided it is in good condition.

There can be too much of a good thing when it comes to accent walls, so avoid creating one in every room in your house. Some rooms, like bathrooms and kitchens, don’t naturally lend themselves to accent walls, so it’s best to skip them there. Of course, your home should reflect your own sense of style, so if accent walls in multiple rooms appeal to you, there’s no hard-and-fast rule forbidding it.
