"Ryan is awesome! We needed to upgrade our garage electrical + smoke detectors & pool alarms @ our rental property in L.I. (Permit dept requirements) Ryan arrived right when he said he would & he stayed extra to help ADT solve a new thermostat issue. He texted us pics of each repair/replacement he did before he left the property. He gives good & honest advice, & is very easy to work with! Other electricians we contacted for this last minute project didnâ t even bother to get back to us! I highly recommend RCK Electric."

"Fast and super helpful. Gave me a proposal right away. Started work same week. If deviations were needed, was specific on what and why. Reasonable and fair pricing, and honest about their capabilities and areas of expertise. Professional team and went out the way to provide additional references for other concerns. I also appreciated the video Fabio took to show me the before and after, especially in areas I was unable to see."

"Estimator came 1hr late due to other calls lasting longer than expected, no issue for me. The electrician was delayed because he went to the wrong address, but that's not unusual for my address (google gets it wrong). The electrician had no issues removing the wire. Worked quickly and well. Removed the wire as needed."

"I called Mark Paris & told him my bathroom fan was making a very loud, unusual noise & needed to be repaired. Mark listened to my problem & told me how to trouble shoot. I followed Mark,s expert advice &after disconnecting the power was able to clean the dust & gunk from inside the fan. I am happy to say it worked!! It is so refreshing in this day & age to find such an honest, knowledgeable person. Mark saved me the expense of a service call. I will certainly recommend Paris Electric to all my friends & neighbors. Thank you Mark & Paris Electric!!"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Generally, a ceiling fan should be mounted at least seven feet from the floor in the center of your room with a wall clearance of around 18 inches. If your ceiling is more than eight feet high, it’s recommended by experts that the ceiling fan be mounted around eight to nine feet from the ground. This helps ensure a better quality of circulated airflow.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.

There’s no reason why you can’t install a ceiling fan anywhere in your home, such as in living rooms, offices, bedrooms, and dining areas. Most bathrooms already have ventilation and don’t need a ceiling fan. For safety purposes, avoid installing a ceiling fan where the blades will be less than eight feet from the floor, near bunk beds, or anywhere else they may hit nearby objects.

The most efficient ceiling fan height is 8 to 9 feet from the floor to the fan blades. For ceilings higher than 9 feet, a downrod can be used to lower the fan to the optimal height. This positioning ensures adequate air circulation and maximizes the cooling effect. Remember, fans should be installed at least 7 feet above the floor for safety.
