"When no one locally even responded to my inquiries for a quote, Michelle got back to me the same day with a quote and description of how the repair would be done. It's a slight downside to have to ship one glove coast to coast for a minor repair on one finger. But the cost of shipping and the repair is much less than purchasing another $100 pair of gloves! The repair took a little longer than anticipated, but shipping time had to be factored in as well. Michelle was very prompt with communications during the process. Cost of service below did not include shipping which was about $16 round trip. The glove returned good as new...well as good as it's pair. The glove is two years old. But the seam was totally resewn and reinforced. Michelle stated she did not want to the issue to happen again. I hope it won't. The problem started with my fingers rubbing. Very happy with the service from Premier. I wish they had a shop in Maryland!"

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Common mistakes in Ithaca include overlooking humidity when choosing adhesives or batting, using non-breathable fabrics that trap moisture, and skipping proper drying time between steps. Homeowners sometimes store supplies in damp basements or underestimate the challenge of moving furniture through Ithaca’s hilly streets. Ignoring local expertise, like textile resources at nearby institutions, and starting projects during busy academic periods can also lead to delays or setbacks.

Helpful?

When planning upholstering projects in Ithaca, NY, factor in humidity swings and lake-effect weather, which can cause fabric expansion and contraction. Homes near Cayuga Lake should use moisture-resistant materials. Many residents have pets or active lifestyles, so scratch- and stain-resistant fabrics are wise. Scheduling projects outside of the academic calendar can make it easier to source upholstery supplies and find help during quieter periods in the city.

Helpful?

The age and layout of your Ithaca property can influence upholstering projects significantly. Historic homes in areas like Fall Creek may need period-appropriate upholstery supplies and techniques, while student rentals near Cornell benefit from durable, stain-resistant fabrics. Watch for common basement moisture—avoid storing materials below grade—and consider sun exposure in south-facing rooms to select fade-resistant fabrics that last through Ithaca’s changing seasons.

Helpful?

Combining upholstering projects with other upgrades in Ithaca, NY, can be efficient, especially if timed with spring cleaning or local renovation trends. Schedule upholstery after flooring or window replacements to minimize dust and maximize UV protection for new fabrics. Many local contractors offer bundled services, and student workers are often available during college breaks to help with moving furniture, streamlining larger home improvement projects.

Helpful?

For upholstering projects in Ithaca, NY, keep essentials like a HEPA-filter upholstery vacuum for local pollen and dust, moisture absorbers for humid summers, and fabric protector sprays to guard against spills. Stock fabric-safe mold preventatives, UV-protection sprays for sun-exposed rooms, and a repair kit with upholstery needles, strong thread, and adhesive. Weatherproof covers are smart for sudden Finger Lakes weather shifts, supporting long-term furniture care.
