"It was difficult getting Roger into Manhattan.  He wasn't prepared to bring his vehicle and supplies into Manhattan.  My first appointment had to be rescheduled because he wasn't sure about parking.  He had someone wait in the vehicle and he came up and I showed him the  projects I needed to get done.  He was apologetic but after waiting around for him all afternoon it was very inconvenient to have to reschedule.   While he was there he suggested that I mount my TV which I hadn't been planning to do but it was a good idea.  He thought that if I wanted to buy the mount he could do it in addition to my other projects.
After much going back and forth and resending of my address, Roger arrived for our rescheduled appointment.  He came by train so he didn't bring his supplies.  My project list included: installing bathroom door handle, checking why my ceiling fan wasn't working and installing the TV mount.  He was able to get the door handle installed and the TV mount.  Because he didn't have his full tool bag  he didn't have the circuit tester.  So he was unable to get the ceiling fan working.
Before leaving, I showed him my kitchen because in the future I wanted to put down new floor tiles and a backsplash.  He suggested a new countertop and said he would bring by samples but I have never heard from him again.
He did a good job installing the door handle and the TV but I felt he did not come prepared to do the ceiling fan. This was an Angie's deal so the price was good.  I think that was also why he was overbooked and having trouble keeping up with appointments.

"Efficient and friendly crew in sales and installation at GO GREEN. A/C failed in the depths of heat wave. We were up and running again with all new equipment within just a few days from my initial phone call."

Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.

Experienced professionals don’t usually need to take down drywall to install the central vacuum. They are experienced in working in the tight spaces between walls and in crawl spaces to minimize any damage. The only drywall changes should be the holes cut for the new outlets. However, home design, existing plumbing, and other factors may require some modification. An estimate from a professional contractor should include information if any changes need to be made.

For the average-size house, a central vacuum installation usually takes one day of work by a team of professionals. Large houses may take two or more days. But if you are planning on a DIY project, it’s likely to take much longer. We suggest getting a few estimates for a project this big and fully understanding all the requirements before you make a decision about installation. Certain parts of your house may not be usable during the installation, and you may want to make other plans.

Yes, installing a central vacuum system typically adds value to your home. The ease of use, longevity, and superior suction power of a central vacuum system can add up to $2,000 to your home’s value if you decide to sell. Potential buyers may consider the central vacuum a perk to purchasing your home.
