"Everything went well starting from proposal to finish. 12 member crew finished in 5 hrs. Cleaning up was mostly well done except a few minor spots were neglected. Overall a definite A for Royal Roofing and Sidings. Also Sales rep Mark was very professional and attentive. Will recommend to anyone I know who needs service they cover."

"Excellent from start to finish! Dimitri came prepared on short notice and he did a great job repairing my siding. He also fixed other parts of my siding that wasn't put in correctly free of charge. He was very personable and he exceeded my expectations."

"I was having a new floor put in the basement so carpeting had to be removed and under the carpeting were 50 years old Asbestos tiles. They removed both in a very safe and professional way. They were right on time on the project date. They did the work and then returned my home to its previous condition. You wouldn't know a team of workers had been in my house that day."

"After interviewing several HomeAdvisor pros we hired Rrs Builders Corp to restore the facade of our landmark brownstone in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It was the right choice. This local family business devoted time and efforts to every detail of the job, making sure we were happy with the results. Owner Abdul was very responsible and responsive and we highly recommend him."

"We hired Four Seasons again (after they redid our siding) to replace our existing roof, which was about 15 years old and in bad shape. We were so impressed with the speed in which they completed the job (less than 1 day). Everyone we dealt with, from Oscar, to Donna, to our roofing foreman, were courteous and professional. Their workmanship is excellent. I cannot recommend them enough!"

"He's awesome, prompt and fairly priced. He works with his son who's also friendly. He even cleared the ice off of my side stairs which I thought was nice because he didn't have to as it wouldn't have stopped his job. He and his son took their time which I appreciated. I really liked him. I have more work for him to do."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Stucco is considered a type of cladding because it includes a built-in ventilation layer, a weatherproof membrane beneath that, and, often, a layer of insulation to improve building efficiency. The multiple layers of stucco—the scratch coat, the brown coat, and the finish coat—also create a more complex building membrane, so it’s more accurate to call it cladding. However, homeowners and contractors alike refer to stucco as siding.

Vines can cause severe damage to your siding. They can grow underneath and all around siding, which can cause it to pop off or split. Vines also trap moisture, which can damage siding by causing rot. The cost to replace siding may make you consider getting rid of the ivy or adding a trellis or lattice support for it to grow on instead.

Hail as small as 3/4 inch (about the size of a penny) can cause damage to your siding. When hail reaches 1 inch in size, you can expect to see more cracks, chips, and holes, and hail that’s 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 inches around will cause significant damage. If you see hail that’s 1 and 1/2 inches to 2 inches or more in size, the damage is likely to be extensive and possibly even dangerous.

When moisture infiltrates your siding, it can result in deterioration and decay of the sheathing, cause structural damage to your foundation, and provides an ideal breeding ground for mold. Mold growth can lead to various health-related problems, such as itchy eyes, sneezing, allergies, and asthma. Mold and dampness commonly attract a wide range of insects, so if your siding has taken any kind of water damage, it could invite some unwelcome guests.

Generally speaking, the thicker the siding, the higher the quality. Thicker siding provides a stronger resistance against extreme weather conditions. Thicker siding also tends to fade more slowly under the sun. Hardie boards, a popular fiber cement siding option, is usually 5/16 inches thick. Meanwhile, masonry-finished cement siding varies from 5/8 to 5/8 inches thick.
