"Light Speed Welding is a gift from God. Matt got right back to me by phone and text. I sent him pix of the job. He gave me a fair price. It was a complex job and included welding three small pieces to a chassis. He did it perfectly w/o any complaining. Tough job, but he made it look easy. Talented. Recommend highly."

"I want to tell the world about Raj and the service he provided but Iâ  m afraid if I do he will be too busy when I need his service thatâ  s how great of a contractor he is. Raj is very professional,I was provided a detailed list with the price and he also provided pictures which for me just made me very happy. He also informed me when there was money left over from the job that could provide me to get something else done. As far as the prices, in todayâ  s economy everything is going up in price I got 2 other estimates for my many jobs and Raj provided me the best price for my money I would definitely refer him and his company. I also didnâ  t feel like I was getting robbed. Raj heâ  s an honest and fair business man that takes pride in his craftsmanship. The work that was done for me was installation of a new door ,repair a door frame, reinstall a toilet, unclog drain, removal of a vanity light fixture, installing a bell panel some carpentry work underneath sink and a couple of other things I canâ  t remember. The pictures were perfect as an owner not on site. The work is impeccable. I appreciate the professionalism."

Welding questions, answered by experts

Choosing the right metal fabricator for your project begins with research. Find a reputable fabrication company by searching for reputable contractors in your area, and then reviewing photos of their previous work, customer reviews, and photos of the company’s workshop.

Once you’ve narrowed down the list, contact the companies to ask about the types of metal fabrication projects they specialize and inquire about guarantees and warranties on workmanship. You should also ensure the company uses high-quality material, and ask about the schedule and turnaround time for your proposed project.

Welding is the process of using extreme heat—and, sometimes, pressure—to attach two pieces of metal. In contrast, metal fabrication is a more involved process that can include welding, sheet metal work, bending, and other forms of metal manipulation. Metal fabrication is a large-scale project that may or may not involve welding, while welding is more often a step in larger fabrication projects.

Yes, but you’ll need reliable steel-cutting tools and safety gear to get started. Shipping containers are typically around ¾ inch thick, so it’s entirely possible to cut through them, but experience and the right equipment are very important. When possible, try to get a container as close to the size you want it as possible.

The best thing to cut metal pipe is a durable pipe cutter that is made for metal. You may want to measure the diameter of the pipes before purchasing a pipe cutter to ensure it will be able to cut your metal pipes. Opt for a heavy-duty option to cut through metal like steel or cast iron.

The cost to weld aluminum averages about $14 to $22 per pound. The type of metal factors into the overall cost of any welding project due to the cost of the materials and the expertise required to work with it. Some of the most common metals used by welders include:

  • Magnesium alloy: $7–$16 per pound

  • Low-carbon steel: $11–$12 per pound

  • Stainless steel: $13–$15 per pound

  • Copper/brass: $24–$29 per pound

  • Cast iron: $38–$79 per pound

  • Titanium: $60–$85 per pound
