"review for Bob Deyo We had  a 120 year old silver maple tree in our backyard that was growing really close to our house.  We wanted to figure out if we should prune it back or take down the tree entirely. A person at Cornell recommended Deyo's Tree Service to us. We got several quotes from different companies, and we were so impressed with Bob's experience and knowledge. Of all the companies we contacted, Bob was the only one who insisted that our tree had to come down because it was dangerous for us. Well, a few days later, we hired a certified arborist and he said that the tree couldn't be saved and should be taken down for safety reasons. We are so grateful that Bob insisted that we take the tree down. Other companies were trying to save the tree, but if we had listened to them, we would have put our lives at risk! We are so thankful that we had Bob's expertise.Â"

"Very friendly. Organized, arrived on time. Answered my questions and gave me the best quote in the area. They worked safely and removed 4 maples trees near the house. The job was done in one day and I am very pleased. I would highly recommend Michael to anyone who is a perfectionist and values good customer service, a fast response and job completion above and beyond expectation. He even cleaned up any wood chips and small branches left over from a recent storm. There was absolutely nothing I had to do. Thank you Mike!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Planting a palm tree close to your home can provide shade while elevating the beauty of your yard. However, there are a few safety concerns to consider before doing so. You’ll want to opt for a smaller tree with a non-invasive root system. Select a species that won’t grow too tall and choose a planting location that won’t damage your home.

While the fastest way to kill a tree is to simply cut it down, there are several other methods to choose from. You should hire a professional tree removal service to cut down a tree to ensure your personal and property safety. Some slower but effective options include treating or grinding the tree stump or using a basal bark treatment.

You can shape a cherry tree by trimming vertical branches, dense branches, and intersecting branches. Your personal aesthetic comes into play, as well. If you want to simply thin and shape the tree, you can get away with trimming the aforementioned parts of your cherry tree. If you want to shorten branches, however, consider thinning cuts, which alter the length of the branches while encouraging light penetration, new buds and shoots, and a structurally-sound shape.

Not all leaning trees are dangerous, but they can be a hazard as gravity may eventually cause them to fall. A key factor is whether the lean is new or has been present for a long time. Trees that have grown with a lean for years are not typically an immediate danger, but a sudden lean is a cause for concern as it often indicates weakening roots. If a tree is leaning more than 15% from vertical, you should consider having it straightened or transplanted. To be safe, it's always best to hire a professional arborist to inspect any leaning tree to assess the risk and avoid potential accidents.

Palm tree stumps can take as long as seven to ten years to rot naturally. Whereas some tree stumps rot within a year, palm trees tend to last longer due to their deep root networks. Chemical rotting (described above) can help speed the process up so your palm tree stumps rot in under two months.
