"We will hire if there is work that can be done by this business. Mr. Higgins is willing to stand behind the results of the inspection he performed for us and gave us an immediate response to inquiry about leaks around our chimney, was on time, professional, knowledgeable and accommodating to our need for documentation."

"I called for a free estimate, Justin came promtly and inspected the chimey. He showed me pictures of the problems and spelled out all the options. I explained to him that my cellar has floode due the problems and was anxious to get the repairs done. Justin quoted a price that was fair and much lower then any other estimates. To my surprise he said that he could do the job that day. He kept sending me pictures as the work progressed so I knew exactlywhat he was doing. He was professional and honest about what needed to be done. I was more then pleased with him and the company. I highly recommend .Chimneys are us."

"Anthony Masonry and chimney did an excellent job clearing a ton of trees and vines from my property. They were efficient and pleasant to work with - would 10 / 10 higher this company again. I also had them do some stonework leading up to my house, which came out phenomenal."

Chimney Inspection FAQs, answered by experts

This will depend on your existing roof to some degree, but it’s common to raise a roof 4 to 8 feet. The exact amount you can raise is subject to the existing structure. For most homes with average roof slopes—20 to 45 degrees—you can raise the roof around 5 feet.

Issues include leaking seams, rusting panels, loose fasteners, and denting from debris or weather, which can cause damage that requires intervention.

No, a chimney crown is not the same as a chimney cap. A chimney crown is a flat cement area on top of a masonry chimney. It starts where the masonry part of the chimney ends at the very top and domes upward toward the flue opening. A chimney cap sits on top of the crown over the flue. It is usually made of metal and allows smoke to escape without letting in rainwater.

If you’ve had a recent weather event or any other issue that caused roof damage, there’s a chance your caps are damaged also, and it’s worth having an inspection done to see if you need roof ridge replacement or repair. You should also keep an eye out for caps that are visibly deteriorating or curling. Here are more signs to look out for:

  • Cracks or gaps

  • Discoloration

  • Water stains on the ceiling or walls inside

  • Missing shingles

If you have a vented roof ridge, you may also need repair or replacement if you have sudden issues with indoor humidity.

Start by asking friends, family, and neighbors if they know any reliable roof inspectors. You can also ask contractors that you’ve worked with in the past—they often have a network of people they can reach out to. Once you do find a roof inspector you like, check their online presence, read customer reviews, and give them a call.

Make sure they’re properly licensed and insured in your area. It’s also a good idea to hire inspectors licensed by both the National Roof Certification & Inspection Association (NRCIA) and the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI).
