"Mack Tree Service has been an absolutely competent and reliable company to do business. Devon and his crew did a terrific job removing numerous dead trees, and making sure our yard looked great. Highly recommend, and have scheduled to have them come and do some landscaping for us as well. Thank you to a bunch of great honest guys."

"I am VERY pleased with my choice of JAC Land and Tree for my emergency tree removal project! From start to finish, everything went perfect for the safe, careful, and skilled removal of two large storm-damaged trees beside my house, one of which fell, got hung up in a massive 40-foot spruce tree, and partially crushed a chain link fence on its way down. Throughout the job, owner John was professional, knowledgeable, helpful, and easy to work with...so much so that I hired JAC on the spot. Johns estimate was thorough, detailed and arrived within hours of his visit; the pricing was extremely reasonable and fair. Best of all, John was true to his word: he gave me a firm date for the work (the next day!)...and actually showed up on time to do it! On site, John worked alongside an awesome, experienced team that has been together for many years. They methodically went about their work, everyone assigned to a different task while following a well-organized game plan. All work was delivered exactly as promised. My job was precise, thorough, clean, respectful of my property, and without hassle or problem. The entire crew was hard-working, respectful and a pleasure to deal with. If you are looking for a professional, experienced, well-run tree service that does excellent, neat work and honors its word, JAC Land and Tree is a great choice. Big thanks to John and Team for a super job well done! See you next year when it is time to plant a big new tree to replace the ones I lost!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

You can use a felling ax to chop down a tree by following the same prep and steps as a chainsaw, but be prepared to use some muscle. For trees bigger than 7 inches in diameter, it can take some time and serious strength to cut down a tree using just an ax.

Any tree that needs to be pruned should be pruned to remove dead branches at least once a year. You may need to prune far more often if you’re trying to maintain a certain shape or to save a tree that suddenly becomes infected.

If an arborist is certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), the highest level of certification available is ISA Board Certified Master Arborist. According to the ISA, this credential is reserved for arborists “who have reached the pinnacle of their profession.” Check your arborist’s credentials before hiring to confirm their level of training and expertise.

White vinegar does not kill ivy on trees because its acetic acid concentration is not high enough to overpower it. Vinegar is an effective herbicide for weeds and other plants, but not for the strength of most ivies, including poison ivy and English ivy. You should use an herbicide to kill ivy, such as one with glyphosate, imazapyr, or triclopyr.

Rock salt or Epsom salt can damage and kill tree roots over several weeks and can even assist in removing the tree's stump. However, you need to drill holes or cut into the stump and surface tree roots to inject them properly with the salt. Repeat the process every two weeks until the roots visibly rot away.
