"I called several companies to remove two very large trees. I had a few call me back. I had one reschedule and others said they were too busy. Randy called me, scheduled a time to come out and actually showed up. He gave me a quote and was here the next day to do the work. He and his helper cut the trees down and removed and hauled everything away! I would recommend this company highly, and will use them again for other work!"

"Spoke to several contractors about removing 60+-year-old trees due to circumstances out of our control that created a quick deadline for completion. Two of the trees were in a very difficult location with power lines above. Randy not only responded quickly to our call for a bid, but also was professional, knowledgeable, and honest about the project. We knew immediately he was the one to hire. The crew was professional, respectful and did a great job throughout the weeklong project. Despite complications and weather, they continued to handle themselves professionally and completed the project as promised. We would highly recommend them to anyone needing any type of work on their trees or property. We have used other tree services in the past and have been disappointed every time. I would tell anyone needing trees trimmed or removed, don't mess around with anyone else, call Northern Nevada Construction, LLC. also know as Mountain G.E.M. Services. It will be the smartest move you can make. Your project will be completed as bid, cost you less than other companies, will be completed as you wanted and they clean up the debris. You can breathe a sigh of relief that your project is done the right way by professionals who are also some of the nicest people we’ve met in a long time."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is essential to confirm that any tree service company you hire is properly insured before they begin work. Tree removal, trimming, and pruning are dangerous jobs, and proper insurance protects you, your home, and the company from liability in case of accidents or damage. Look for a company that carries both general liability and workers’ compensation insurance, and do not hire one that cannot provide proof of coverage. When browsing for professionals, you can look for indicators like an “Angi Approved” badge, which signifies that the business meets standards like holding applicable licenses and passing a background check. Keep in mind that a license is a legal requirement to operate, while certifications are typically voluntary.

For Bradford pears, damage from storms is common, and if the trunk splits, it can pose a danger to people and surrounding structures. The best thing to do in that instance is to have the tree removed. If there’s only minor damage to the branches, pruning away the damaged parts is the first order of business. You may also want to consult a professional arborist to make sure the tree is healthy.

Not every arborist climbs trees, but most will do so if that’s the best method for assessing or treating a tree. Arborists have a variety of tree climbing gear and safety equipment to choose from when climbing trees. Consult your local arborist about their tree-climbing plan if your service requires that type of task.

You can remove a small tree from your yard if there’s space for the tree to fall, you have the right tools and safety equipment, and you follow a clear plan of action. You’ll just want to follow the steps above carefully, and ideally, you will have experience doing similar tasks. If you have any doubts that you can do this project safely, though, you should hire a pro.

Some trees will bounce back just fine, and others will struggle and possibly die. Evergreens, for instance, have a very difficult time recovering after droughts and usually die after periods of extreme dryness. Usually, you’ll have to just wait and see—if the drought occurs in wintertime, it’s possible that your tree will recover during the gentler springtime.
