Small jobs welcome

"Denny and his team did an excellent job. Clean, fast, professional...my rooms look perfect! We even had an issue with a little area that did not get done correctly, and he proactively scheduled a time to return. He fixed the issue at no extra cost, leaving everything in perfect condition. Couldn't be happier."

"The company representative was John Sellers. We were extremely happy with John right from the beginning. During his consultation he seemed to pay particular attention to detail. We already had had estimates with other companies, but John noticed some details and had some new ideas that none of the other contractors mentioned. In comparison to other company representatives he appeared to be the most creative and knowledgeable. Although ArtCon did not submit the lowest bid, we had confidence that that company would do the best job because of John. I'm happy to report that our confidence was rewarded. The quality of the completed work was outstanding. The work was started and completed in the timeframe that the representative had promised to us. The crew cleaned absolutely everything up. We had absolutely no work to do when they were finished. In summary, we remain completely pleased with the work that was done. John Sellers and the entire ArtCon crew proved to be professional, courteous, and very skilled. As a further bonus actually everything was finished on time.

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Constant exposure to inclement weather conditions can damage your deck, causing it to fade, warp, or crack over time. Regular maintenance keeps it looking and performing its best. That means giving it a good cleaning and applying a quality sealant or wood treatment to help defend against moisture, sun damage, and everyday wear.

Composite decking is the best material for individuals living with disabilities who want to age in place. The material is anti-slip, which increases safety throughout the year. It’s also highly durable and requires minimal maintenance, so it doesn’t add another item to the individual’s to-do list. It’s also a good option for improving wheelchair accessibility at home, as it can easily manage a wheelchair ramp.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

Always sand a deck before repainting so the wood is smooth and ready for paint. While you do not need to fully remove paint before repainting, sanding helps remove any areas with weather and sun damage. Sanding also helps remove chipped or flaking paint and opens the wood pores to improve paint adhesion.

Yes, pressure washing a wood deck can be a good idea as it effectively lifts ingrained dirt, mold, and mildew, improving the deck's appearance and longevity. However, it must be done carefully, as it's easy to damage the wood, especially softwoods. To pressure wash safely, use a lower pressure setting and a wide, 40-degree fan pattern nozzle (often white). Keep the nozzle at least a foot away from the wood surface and maintain constant motion, avoiding hovering in one spot to prevent gouging.
