Small jobs welcome

"D Bean Construction has done several large and small projects for us. Large cement driveways and sports Court. Retaining walls and fencing. D Bean Construction replaced our windows and put on a new roof. D Bean Construction has helped plan and execute our On Demand Water Heater plumbing system and fixed some electrical issues. All of these projects were completed over the past 5 years of our home ownership. All these projects were done in a timely manner and within the proposed estimate. Our next major project will be new hardwood flooring throughout the house and I will no doubt use D Bean Construction once again."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Countertops typically hang over base cabinets by 1.5 inches. This slight overhang protects cabinet faces from spills and provides a finished look. The overhang may extend 12 inches or more for kitchen islands or breakfast bars to allow for seating and comfortable eating.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop material. It typically costs between $50 to $70 per square foot.

Compared to quartz, porcelain is slightly more affordable, as quartz generally ranges from $50 to $200 per square foot. However, lower-quality, builder's grade quartz can be similar in price to porcelain.

Compared to granite, the price can be similar, depending on the quality of the stone. While granite slabs can range from $50 to $200 per square foot, you can find lower-end granite in the same price range as porcelain. High-end granites will cost significantly more.

Porcelain is generally more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic, but less expensive than high-end slate, concrete, and marble. A key benefit is that porcelain does not require sealing, which reduces long-term maintenance costs.

You can likely use spray paint or a paint sprayer for your laminate countertops. You should prep the space the same way as if you were painting with a roller or brush, making sure to cover any areas that you want to protect with a drop cloth or plastic sheets.

Countertop resurfacing or refinishing can extend the life of your countertops for an additional 5 to 10 years. The longevity depends on the quality of the materials, the amount of wear and tear, and how well the countertops are maintained. To maximize their lifespan, avoid heat damage by using hot pads or trivets, use cutting boards to prevent scratches, clean with non-abrasive cleaners, and wipe up spills promptly.

You can put hot pans on porcelain countertops. Porcelain is highly resistant to heat—it’s manufactured at around 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, so it can withstand a ton of heat without cracking or damaging. Even though the high heat is a plus, you should still be cautious when putting hot surfaces on porcelain countertops.
