Small jobs welcome

"These people did an excellent job of cutting back the trees we hired them to do. They took them from 20 to 25 feet down to 6 feet. They not only did the cutting, they also trimmed them to make them well groomed. They cleaned up all of the mess when done. They left nothing of the trash that was created by the job. I highly recommend this company to anyone and we are definitely going to use them again for our yard needs."

"Contacted me within minutes of my inquiry on Angie. Gave me a fair price on removing a LARGE shrub & said could be there about 5pm. Later texted & said running behind on previous job would be around 7. I told him tomorrow am would be fine too, his choice. He insisted on tonight as per his original contact. Did a good job, cleaned up and left, all after dark! Will recommend to my neighbor who asked & will use them again if needed!"

"Desert Pride was highly recommended by someone that had done a stump removal for me. James was very responsive when I first called him and his rate for tree trimming was very reasonable. James and his staff did a wonderful job, very thorough and left my yard around the tree cleaner than I expected. I will definitely hire him again to maintain my large palm tree trimmed."

Leaf Removal questions, answered by experts

The best disposal method for hazardous waste is recycling or donation, if possible. That way, the world can reduce its consumption of raw materials and the volume at which materials have to be treated and disposed of. If recycling or donation is not an option, most waste can be disposed of through landfills or incinerators, but their collection and treatment are separate from regular day-to-day waste disposal.

Unfortunately, lead dust does not look different from any other type of dust. You cannot detect it with the naked eye. To determine if you have lead dust in your home, you will need to hire a local company to take a sample from the paint and test it for you in a lab.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Professional lead-paint abatement companies use a variety of methods to remove lead-based paint, depending on each particular situation. Some of the most common methods include:

  • Total removal: $8–$17 per square foot

  • Demolition and replacement: $1,000–$15,000 per project

  • Encapsulation: $4 per square foot

  • Enclosure: $10 per square foot

  • Chemical stripping: $10–$17 per square foot

You should ask a few questions to ensure that your potential lead removal professional is experienced and qualified to handle lead-paint abatement safely, legally, and properly.

  • What are your qualifications and experience removing lead-based paint?

  • Are you licensed and certified to remove lead-based paint?

  • How do you test for lead paint?

  • What methods do you use for lead-based paint abatement?

  • What do you plan to do with the hazardous material when you remove it from the home?

  • Do you do replacement and painting work or removal only?
