"We had Touched by God Carpenters come and repair our crown mouldings that were cracking and dropping due to a previously poor installation and also had Touched by God Carpenters install an Octagonal on our foyer ceiling. They were totally amazing, on time, respectful, professional, detailed, and did exactly what they said they would do in the timeframe quoted for a super fair price. They were neat and quiet! My old crown mouldings look beautiful and the octagonal installed and painted on the ceiling is perfection. My foyer is stunning and all thanks to Touched By God Carpenters! This year they repaired a staircase that was never finished by another carpenter and who no one would repair for me with missing and broken pieces and then they sanded it BY HAND! with a vacuum in the other hand! My staircase looks amazing. They also refaced my old builder stock kitchen and bathroom cabinets which gives them a custom, contemporary feel. installed hickory hardwood planks on the outside of my large island. "Fabulous! I have used them many times, and will continue to use them. they are prompt, efficient, really good, professional, etc. I can't believe they can get out the stains we manage to put in."
Hardware Store aisle after owner rearranged their aisles, before we stripped and refinished it
Here is the family room with the owner's favorite chair area before we cleaned the carpet
The client doesn't realize just how dirty her floor is, and becomes amazed at the outcome!
This is the client's den area where the floors were refinished. There is a long list of major errors. Here it starts with dreadful sanding resulting in drum marks & edger digs, incomplete sanding, completely botched staining, and a horrible 'finished' product!
Here you can see several etch marks, (drips, dribbles, spills and drink ring marks)

"I hired the company for carpet, area rugs and a upholstered couch. The couch which is 15 years old appeared almost new when they finished and the carpet and rugs were also cleaned to perfection, even getting rid of tough stains. They were punctual and extremely professional. I do plan to use there services again and recommend them to family and friends."

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Furniture made from materials resistant to sun fading includes metals like aluminum, stainless steel, and wrought iron, as well as certain synthetic materials like polyethylene (commonly used in outdoor wicker furniture) and resin-based products. Glass tables and accents are also sun resistant. These materials inherently withstand UV rays and are less prone to fading or discoloration. Furniture with UV-resistant coatings or finishes, such as powder-coated metal or UV-protected plastics, offers enhanced protection against sun-induced fading.

As with any project, weighing the pros and cons of upholstery can help determine if that is the right choice for you. The ultimate question is whether it’s worth reupholstering instead of buying new furniture. Here are a few of the benefits and disadvantages of reupholstering a piece of furniture.

Pros:

  • Preserving a family heirloom

  • Maintaining high-quality furniture in good condition

  • Reinventing an old piece of furniture

  • Keeping a piece of furniture from going to a landfill

Cons:

  • Spending (possibly) more than to buy a new piece of furniture

  • Finding out the frame is beyond repair

  • Waiting for the reupholstery work to be done

The average cost to reupholster a piece of furniture is around $720, with most projects falling in the $380 to $1,150 range. The final price can vary significantly based on several factors. These include the size and complexity of the furniture, the cost of the new fabric (which typically ranges from $50 to $70 per yard), and hourly labor rates (often $40 to $100 per hour). Additional factors that influence the price are the piece's current condition, its age, whether it needs other repairs, the number of pieces being reupholstered, and your geographic location.

To safeguard your furniture and upholstered items, it's best to use plastic wrap or specially-made plastic sofa covers. However, you should avoid wrapping wooden furniture in plastic if you plan on storing it, as plastic can trap moisture and warp the wood, plus it may damage certain finishes. In either case, old blankets or moving blankets make excellent alternatives. For protecting delicate glass table tops and mirrors, bubble wrap is always a reliable choice.

Yes, you can reupholster antique furniture, and it’s a great way to extend the life of your pieces and keep them looking fresh and new for years to come. In fact, since reupholstering furniture is significantly more affordable than replacing it, reviving antique furniture can be a cost-effective way to keep that family heirloom usable for much longer. It’s usually a good idea to leave antique reupholstering to a professional, as they will have the tools and expertise to ensure the piece isn’t damaged and looks professionally finished.
