"Denis did an excellent job. He showed up right on time. He quickly prepped the rooms, fixed some holes, sanded all the walls, and expertly painted the rooms. Denis was very personable and easy to talk to. He listened to your concerns and addressed them. I would definitely recommend him if you need any interior painting done. Fabulous job!"

"We recently bought a new house and wanted to remodel it before we move in. Our project was very complex in terms of scope and timeline, but since our budget was very limited, it made everything even more difficult. Sal took on this job for both materials and labor. He worked within our budget and helped us make smart sacrifices to deliver the entire scope. Sal is a man of his word which is critically important in this business. always been very responsive (even nights and weekends) and completed everything he said he was going to do. His team is great - they clean up and very organized."

Interior Design and Decorating questions, answered by experts

While finding a local interior designer whose portfolio you like and whose fees match your budget is important, they should always have appropriate qualifications. Some states require interior designers to be licensed, and most will have a degree in interior design and certification through the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ). You can also consult our directory of interior designers to get started.

Some architects include interior design in their portfolio of offerings, while some architectural firms employ interior designers to handle that aspect of home building projects or refer clients to interior designers they’ve worked with in the past. Ask a local architect whether they offer interior design services as well.

Decorating a tree yourself will only take between one and two hours, but a professional designer may take more time to create their vision. When hiring a pro, assume the work will take a minimum of three to four hours.

An architect is usually involved in the process of determining the layout and structural features and requirements of the home itself, taking into account the local codes, climate, and materials needed to make the home structurally sound. Architects may communicate more with contractors and subcontractors throughout the building process. In comparison to architects, interior designers typically focus on the aesthetics of a home interior and possibly exterior, helping the homeowner decide on color schemes, textures, and materials to incorporate into the design.

Most interior designers have at least a four-year degree, if not an advanced degree in interior design. Additionally, many states require interior designers to be licensed. If your state does not require licensing, interior designers can take a licensing exam with the National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ). Overall, licensing requirements vary from state to state, but most licenses require certain education levels and experience to qualify. To check the qualifications of your interior designer, use Angi’s state licensing tool.
