"I found 3 Brothers Marble & Granite Fabricators on Google while searching for a company to help with my project, and it ended up being the best decision I could have made. From the beginning, their customer service was excellent. They were very professional, responsive, and took the time to answer all my questions. Everything was done with great attention to detail, and the final result was perfect and impeccable. You can tell they take pride in their craftsmanship. Customers say: Quality work

"We hired Ernest and Sons to construct our patio tiles. We purchased 2' X 2' Tiles and I have to say they did a gorgeous job. I was so pleased with the way they showed up when they said they would. The men that laid out on my job worked so hard. The labor was very strenuous but they never took a break. They were the most conscientious and polite workers I've ever dealt with. They worked neatly, cleaned up totally afterward, and just had a great deal of respect for our property. They really did a beautiful job and Ernest, the owner is a real gentleman also. Love this company!"

"When doing a full home renovation, the countertops were by far the hardest part of the entire process. We drove to dozens of granite yards and talked with a few fabricators. We felt lost trying to figure out what we wanted at a reasonable price. This all changed when we accidentally drove to Granite Innovations, thinking it was a granite yard. At first Jonathan didnt even know if he would get the business, but he helped us and wanted to make sure we got exactly what we wanted, regardless if we used him. He told us granite yards we could go to, was very responsive with every question we had and guided us in materials and styles. Absolutely amazing experience. His price was very reasonable and Granite Innovations craftsmanship was second to none. I am so happy we stumbled upon this gem of a contractor. I would 10/10 recommend them."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Concrete countertops require regular upkeep to maintain their appearance and durability, and are generally considered harder to maintain than other materials. For daily cleaning, use a mild, pH-neutral cleaner and avoid harsh, acidic products that can damage the sealant. It is crucial to wipe up spills immediately, especially from acidic substances, as concrete stains easily. To protect against stains and moisture, the countertops must be resealed periodically—at least once a year, if not more frequently. Additionally, use a cutting board to avoid scratching the surface. Be aware that concrete is also prone to cracking over time, which may require repairs.

Several countertop materials are designed to require as little maintenance as possible. The most popular options for ease of use include laminate, stainless steel, and quartz. These options are nonporous, so they’re unlikely to stain or be affected by mold and bacteria. They’re also easy to wipe down and safe to use with various cleaning products.

You can cut food on tough, scratch-resistant granite countertops. However, these hard surfaces can quickly dull your knife blades, and continual cutting in the same spot can eventually lead to marks forming and compromising the protective sealant. As with any countertop material, it’s always best to use a chopping board.

If you want your butcher countertops to last the typical 20 years, you should seal them monthly. Most homeowners use either oil or polyurethane, which helps repel water from the porous material. Keep in mind that if your countertops are in a kitchen, you’ll want to use a food-grade sealant. Tung oil, mineral oil, and beeswax are all popular options.

A minimum overhang of 10 to 12 inches is generally recommended for countertop or island seating to provide enough legroom. For increased comfort, an overhang of 15 to 18 inches is ideal, allowing for more space and a relaxed experience. However, a 10-inch overhang can be sufficient in certain situations, such as for bar-height countertops, when using small stools, or in smaller kitchens where space is limited. Taller countertops may also require less overhang than shorter ones. Ultimately, you should consider your specific needs for legroom and measure to ensure the overhang fits comfortably within your kitchen's layout.
