"Everything went very well. Richard and his crew were very professional and friendly. They worked non stop until the job was completed. Some of my neighbors will be using them to do their driveways. If I need work done in the future I will not hesitate to call Suburban Asphalt. I will refer them to anyone looking to have their driveways, etc. done."

"Ryan is great young hardworking guy, he understands the requirement and made a nice pavers patio and asphalt driveway, we liked it. He has completed big project on time. The driveway could be little better but overall good job. He has promised 5 years warranty plus helping out with sealing the driveway next year as courtesy."

"This company resurfaced my driveway which was completely repaved by another service only 5 years ago. The previous work did not hold up so I chose to resurface using JHR. What a beautiful job they did…they removed a portion of the driveway, addressed the cracks and filled in a very large hole which had developed. I am completely satisfied with the work and received a fair price. It was worth waiting to get on their schedule….next year they will seal the driveway…great company to work with."

Asphalt Driveways FAQs, answered by experts

After completing an asphalt paving project in Somerset, NJ, allow the surface to cure for 3 to 7 days before driving on it. You should wait 6 to 12 months before the first sealcoat application to let oils oxidize. A long-term plan includes professional annual inspections to check for freeze-thaw damage and reapplying sealant every two to three years to protect your investment.

Helpful?

Common mistakes during asphalt paving projects in Somerset include failing to call 811 (NJ One Call) to locate utilities and underestimating the need for a proper stone base to support pavement on the area's clay-heavy soils. Homeowners also err by relying on verbal agreements instead of written contracts and not properly vetting contractors to confirm they have solid references within Somerset County.

Helpful?

A professional asphalt paving project boosts curb appeal and can increase home value in the competitive NJ real estate market. Beyond aesthetics, it improves safety by eliminating trip hazards and provides a smooth, reliable surface for all-weather vehicle access. A clean, well-drained driveway also reduces tracked-in mud and expands your property's usable space for recreation like basketball or bike riding.

Helpful?

In Somerset, a seasonal routine is key. In spring, inspect for winter freeze-thaw damage and power wash away salt residue. During summer, check for soft spots from heat. In the fall, it's critical to seal all cracks before temperatures drop below 50°F. For winter, use plastic shovels for snow removal to avoid gouging the surface and causing unnecessary damage.

Helpful?

In Somerset, watch for cracks expanding beyond a quarter-inch wide, as this allows significant water infiltration. The appearance of interconnected "alligator" cracking is a red flag for base failure. Also, address any standing water after rain or vegetation growing through the asphalt, as both indicate moisture issues that will undermine the structure and lead to more extensive and costly repairs.
