"My wife and I hired Pierce Shallis Landscaping to cleanup our yard, install mulch and regrade the side of our house that was collecting water. Pierce and his team were all friendly and on time. They did an amazing job and were fast and efficient. The outside of our house looks like a model home thanks to Pierce and his team. Now we can sit back, relax and enjoy our beautiful outdoor space. I would highly recommend!!"

"I highly recommend this company. Evan did an excellent job correcting an issue that a previous contractor made when removing trees from my backyard. The price to remove the steep slope and level my backyard was very reasonable. Evan was very responsive, on time, and informed me what needed to be done throughout the entire process. The foundation of my home is no longer in jeopardy, due to this company. They saved me thousands in costly repairs to my basement. I wish there was an option to leave 10 stars, because that?s what this company should receive. I plan on hiring Evan again for more work."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The easier way to find buried sprinkler lines is to use the plan from the professionals who installed the system. If you don’t have professional plans, listen for running water on your lawn when you turn on the system. You may also spot wet areas, giving you an idea of where the heads are. Once you find the sprinkler heads, you’ll likely be able to connect the dots between them, revealing the system below.

The rules for trenching and excavation include setting up and following safety protocols, learning how to use tools and machines properly, and ensuring there is a safe exit for all workers. Keep heavy equipment and materials away from the edge of the hole or trench. Call the 811 dig line before starting any excavation or trenching project to ensure you don’t hit any electrical or gas lines.

If you don’t wish to dig it out and convert it into a finished basement, you can still encapsulate your crawl space to protect it from damage for an average cost of $5,500. Finishing a crawl space beyond this isn’t really worthwhile, as the low ceilings mean you won’t be able to use the area as living space.

Hard soil could be a sign of overly dry dirt, either from poor drainage or drought. It's important to test the nutrient levels, density, and drainage capacity of your soil to see if it's absorbing water properly. Begin by adding a light layer of water and observing how long the soil retains moisture. If you experience a good deal of runoff, you may need to aerate your lawn, apply a wetting agent, or hire a professional for a closer look.

It takes one hour to dig a 10-foot trench by hand. Use a trenching shovel with a sharp tip and a long head. Plan for more time if your soil is heavy or rocky. Consider renting a trencher if you’re digging a long or deep trench or if you have challenging soil or terrain.
