"We recently bought a house in need of work, my wife and I thought it would be a great idea to do our own projects around the house. Soon enough , we realized we had no idea how to proceed with our outdoor space. He hired Andres general construction, they provided guidance and a great customer service. We are very pleased with the outcome. I will be definitely hiring them again for future projects. Thank you Andres!"

"We worked with Michael on cleanup of our front and back yard of our new home. The crew spent about a day and half cleaning up the leaves accumulated from last year and potentially many years before, pulled out the sprawling vines and suckers and dead plants left vent the previous owner. The cost ended up being a bit more than the original quote due to the longer than expected hours and the amount of debris towed away. But we think it was a fair price. Good to finally see what we have on the property and can now start to plan the landscaping."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Keep children and pets strictly away from excavated soil piles, as disturbed urban soil in Newark often contains lead or petroleum residues. Request that your contractor install physical barricades around open trenches overnight. Ask the crew to cover soil spoils with tarps to prevent dust dispersal. Schedule active excavating work during weekday school hours to minimize hazards for neighborhood children.

Helpful?

Navigating the dense, aging underground utility network is highly sensitive; failing to hand-dig near marked lines creates severe hazards. Improper backfill compaction in NJ urban soils causes long-term settling under driveways and foundations. Dewatering shortcuts in low-lying floodplains lead to trench wall failures. Furthermore, excavating work near closely spaced row houses demands precise shoring to protect the structural stability of adjacent properties.

Helpful?

Allowing water to pool near excavated areas from misdirected downspouts or overwatering accelerates frost heave damage during Newark winters. Driving heavy vehicles over recently backfilled sites before the soil settles causes premature collapse. Planting trees too close to utility lines in older residential neighborhoods leads to destructive root intrusion. Always direct roof drainage away from backfilled trenches to protect your excavating work.

Helpful?

Hire a licensed contractor who routinely calls 811 before digging, as this is a strict legal requirement in NJ. Your professional must have experience identifying and managing contaminated soils, which are common in our industrial areas. Ensure they understand local floodplain maps near the Passaic River and know how to safely navigate older underground utility infrastructure during your excavating project.

Helpful?

Watch for sinkholes or depressions appearing in your yard after heavy Newark rainstorms. Longitudinal pavement cracking above utility trenches indicates poorly compacted backfill. Basement water infiltration or recurring frost heave damage each spring signals that the original excavating work failed to account for local freeze-thaw cycles. Sewage odors in older row-house neighborhoods also point to shifted or cracked sewer laterals.
