"We have used spotlight twice now! Very impressed! LouAnn is the owner..... she is helpful, informative and communicative. We had a ceiling fan installed in our attic. The contractor who came out to do the work was great! I would highly recommend."

"Tricky ceiling fan install in a room with a 17 foot peak. Ben arrived onsite early and with all the required tools & ladder began by removing existing monster fan. New fan was up and running in less than two hours. This included replacing the wall switch with a new switch which had to be synchronized with the remote and the fan....I would hire Uneak again. Quick & Efficient."

"Called Chuck to check on one of four LED ceiling lights he installed a few years ago. A wire came loose inside the light (manufacturer issue). He came prepared with a spare fixture, but before replacing pulled the light, checked it, fixed it on the spot, and re-assembled. It was a quick job/repair for which he did not charge me a dime. Because of the service, I would call Chuck again (and will) when I need more electrical work."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Ceiling fans offer multiple benefits for your home. They improve air circulation to prevent stagnant environments and provide cost-effective temperature control, which can reduce reliance on your HVAC system and help lower utility bills. In addition to their functional advantages, ceiling fans can also enhance a room's aesthetic appeal with features like built-in lighting and modern styling.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.

There are many types of ceiling fans, from self-automated smart ceiling fans to outdoor ceiling fans that provide additional comfort to your patio. What you choose all comes down to function and personal taste.

Consider your ceiling height when selecting a ceiling fan. Rooms with ceilings under eight feet high will do well with low-profile ceiling fans, also known as flush-mount or hugger ceiling fans. If your home has cathedral ceilings or ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, you’ll need a large ceiling fan with a heavy-duty motor to get adequate air circulation.

In short, no. You can use the square footage range chart in this article to determine the right size ceiling fan for both indoor and outdoor spaces. However, weather elements can damage types of ceiling fans that aren't designed for outdoor use, so your ceiling fan should be weather-resistant if you plan to install it outside.
