"It went great. He ripped up the old driveway and did not disturb the block that was lining the driveway. He did a clean job. He laid seed for grass around the trim and it came out very clean and nice looking. The guy that did the install was a really nice guy."

"I have hired Tanzer Sprinklers for 2 jobs now. Their service is excellent. On the first job the salesman came out and had all the literature pertaining to the products he was going to install. The prices were very competitive. I had 3 estimates done. Tanzer was not the cheapest, however they were giving me the best equipment. When I asked other estimates for the exact same setup/equipment, they couldn't do better. The installation team is also excellent. They took care of my property and I got to watch them use advanced equipment for the first system install, and for the second install on our new home they had to dig trenches by hand in the rain. They did it like the pros they are. Very happy with both jobs they did and I would highly recommend them."

"A BEAUTIFUL job!! My driveway was very old and had cracks all over it. Then there was a large dirt/grass area that looked awful between the crackly driveway and a homemade driveway "extension". The whole driveway, including those adjoining hideous areas, were transformed into a NEW large, clean, neat, driveway. NO slurry; this was fresh gravel, properly packed, and paved with fresh asphalt. Even an unsightly and non-functional flowerbed was removed to make one large, NEAT, and FUNCTIONAL area!! Also a cracked sidewalk was filled and smoothed to perfection! I expect this new driving area to last for many, many years, as it was done right, from scratch. The price was VERY GOOD; I shopped around. Neat and professional, and great pride in the workmanship. The job took a little longer than I was originally told; three days vs. one, but the outcome was worth it! I would recommend to everyone and would definitely use again if something else ever comes up in my lifetime."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Overall, a paver driveway is considered the easiest to maintain because homeowners are able to do driveway repair one piece at a time without impacting the rest of the driveway. Unlike paved options, paver driveways contain individual stones that aren't physically connected. By comparison, you may need to reseal or redo a full asphalt driveway if just one portion sustains a significant crack.

A solid driveway starts with the right asphalt mix, and for most homes, dense-graded hot mix asphalt (HMA) is the most recommended. It’s both durable and flexible, making it a reliable choice for residential use. A properly compacted 2-3 inch layer on a well-prepared crushed stone base will hold up for years. In areas with harsh winters or scorching summers, a slightly modified mix can help prevent cracking and rutting. No matter the climate, quality installation is just as important as the material itself, so hiring an experienced contractor ensures a smooth, long-lasting driveway built to last.

Yes, recycled asphalt driveway costs can be substantially lower than new asphalt. With new asphalt costing between $90 and $190 per ton, this option can cost as much as 10 times more than laying down asphalt millings.

Driveway aprons typically range between four and seven inches thick, though your town's building codes will likely have specific requirements. Additionally, you may need to add a layer of permeable aggregate in the excavation below your paved apron to ensure proper stormwater drainage.

Sealing coat asphalt after 6-12 months and then every 2-3 years is recommended.
