"I recently hired Champion Construction to repair my damaged brick mailbox, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. From the beginning, Arjan was professional, responsive, and easy to work with. He came out promptly to assess the damage, gave me a fair and transparent quote, and scheduled the repair quickly. The quality of the work was excellent. Arjan and his team did a fantastic job! The repair was done efficiently, and they left the area clean and tidy afterward. It’s refreshing to work with a company that takes pride in their craftsmanship and values customer satisfaction. If you’re looking for dependable masonry work, I highly recommend Champion Construction. Thank you, Arjan, for a job well done!"

"Excellent craftsmanship, I hired this company for a retaining wall. They exceeded expectations, and the workers were professional and friendly. I would recommend Super Tony to family and friends. They also kept me in the loop, and touched base through the entire process. My new 60 foot retaining wall looks great!"

"Val and Sony were fantastic. They responded quickly to my inquiry and came over for an estimate. I had a damaged chain link fence due to a recent storm knocking over a tree onto it. He explained what he would do to fix the fence, provided a fair price, and came with his brother Sony the next day. They did an incredible job repairing the fence. I will hire them again for sure for future home projects. They are extremely professional and I highly recommend them."

"I was pleased with the work on my tall retaining wall. The stucco was in poor condition and needed replacement. First Choice removed the old stucco and repaired the wall with new mesh and stucco. They were thorough and worked hard to finish in a week. I got regular videos on the progress each day. The site was immaculate when they were done and my wall was beautiful again."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

Small retaining walls still require a foundation of some kind, typically a concrete footing. This helps to ensure the wall is structurally sound and prevents the ground from shifting over time, especially during those winter freeze/thaw cycles. The footing helps spread the weight of the wall and the load it carries over a larger area of the ground, thus assisting with stability. This is true of small retaining walls, larger rock garden walls, and the like.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.
