"I hired Uprise to repair my pavers on the driveway and I was pleased with the work, professionalism and honesty. I ended up using them for my 20x40 deck replacement and it was just as great as the first experience. We used trex boards, they were open to ideas and listened to our suggestions and they explained everything in detail."

Customers say: True professional

"Lami owns Lura's Sons and he is a hard worker with a happy and friendly disposition who has great prices and is fair and honest. . After meeting with other businesses for a quote on my pavers for my front walkway, I knew right away Lura's Sons, Lami was the one. He did an absolutely beautiful job and I also had him extend the pavers walkway to include access to the driveway. this came out stunning and really upgraded my curb appeal. He also did all concrete sidewalk slabs in front of my house. Because of his professionalism and attention to detail I hired him to also put new siding on my home, talk about a home upgrade, my home looks new! Oh and he also replaced 7 windows with no issues and I love my new windows too! He will be doing my roof next. Go with Lura's Sons, you can't go wrong!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you don’t need a permit to repave your driveway, although some exceptions exist. If you’re widening your driveway and plan on widening the apron as well, you’ll usually need a permit from the Department of Transportation in your area. This permit costs between $50 and $300 in most cases. Most municipalities will also require a certified and insured contractor do the work relating to the apron and curb cut. You can contact your building department or ask your paving company if you need a permit. Your driveway professional will usually pull the permit for you.

Professionals ensure a solid base and smooth finish, enhancing durability and appearance.

Instead of a set number of types, asphalt comes in variations designed for different needs. Some are categorized by temperature—hot mix, warm mix, and cold mix. Others are sorted by composition, like dense-graded, gap-graded (such as Stone Matrix Asphalt), porous, and mastic asphalt. There are also modified versions with added compounds like polymers, rubber, or emulsions. Instead of focusing on a number, it may be more useful to understand how contractors customize asphalt for durability, climate, and traffic conditions.

Building a road on a slope requires careful planning and will normally require a drainage system underneath to prevent flooding and damage to the road over time. Your professional may lengthen your road to create switchbacks if the slope directly to your home is too steep, as there are regulations for maximum road slope. The drainage system will help prevent runoff from the higher side of the slope from damaging the asphalt or concrete. Keep in mind that building a road on a slope isn’t a good DIY project, as a lot can go wrong.

Recycled asphalt is not better than gravel, but can be a good alternative. It is inexpensive, but not as low-cost as gravel, and doesn’t tend to last as long. Recycled asphalt isn’t as dusty as gravel and is more environmentally friendly. The black look can be something that homeowners prefer. No matter what, ensure you choose an experienced recycled asphalt contractor.
