Hi, my name is Andrey, and I own Instant Home Improvements. I've had my company for two years, but I have seven years of experience in construction. I've worked mostly in northeastern New Jersey. I'm based in Sussex County, but I can travel to the surrounding counties. I have experience remodeling bathrooms, kitchens, and flooring, but my distinguishing skill is my knowledge of drywall installation and spackle application. I do most of the work inside homes. I always strive to ensure the client is happy with the finished project. I enjoy seeing the before and after of a home renovation and knowing that I did everything possible to make it turn out well.\n

"We were very satisfied with the results of the replacement of a portion of our luxury vinyl flooring. They were wonderful at communicating and responding. They took their time to be sure the job was done correctly and paid attention to details and cleaned up well upon completion of the job. We were very happy with the results and would definitely hire them again!"

"Fix It For You Handyman Brian Brian came highly recommended to us and he absolutely delivered. We needed help refreshing a shower (caulk) as well as spackling the ceiling where a smaller ventilator fan had been installed. In addition to an excellent end result, Brian meticulously sealed off his work from the bedroom, even laying a brown paper path for himself to travel during the course of his work! (I had feared a dust storm would be part of the project. No worries there!) While here, he took on the additional request of fixing a shutter—all on time and on budget! I now have Brian’s business card which lists a multitude of jobs—indoors and outdoors-- that he would be available to help us with. We intend to take him up on that!"

Pool Table Assembly questions, answered by experts

Losing some water from splashing and evaporation is normal. However, if you notice a rapid drop in the water level or are adding water more frequently than usual, you might have a leak. Other common signs of a pool leak include:

  • Unexplained soft, mushy, or wet spots in the yard.

  • Cracks in the pool's structure or falling tiles.

  • Higher-than-normal water bills.

  • Persistent algae growth or water discoloration.

  • Standing water near the pump, pipes, or other pool equipment.

A fiberglass pool lasts up to 30 to 50 years with proper maintenance. For the longest possible lifespan, keep your pool water pH as close to seven as possible. Test your water levels regularly, run your pool filter daily, and avoid draining the pool. Once your pool is 20 to 30 years old, you can prolong the lifespan by refinishing the shell.

There are several affordable ways to chill your pool. A pool cover can help prevent the temperature of your pool from rising during the sun. You can also run your filter at night to help aerate the water. The next most wallet-friendly option is a DIY pool chiller or fountain that uses evaporation to cool your pool.

Pool leaks most commonly occur at joints or where different materials meet. The most frequent leak spots include:

  • The Pool Skimmer: Where the plastic skimmer meets the pool's liner or shell.

  • The Pool Liner: Tears can develop in vinyl liners, especially those between 5 and 20 years old. Leaks also occur around the liner's edge.

  • Fittings and Accessories: Areas around return lines, the main drain, and pool lights are common culprits.

  • Pool Equipment: The pump, filter, and filter housing can also leak.

While leaks in underground pipes are less common, they can be costly to fix. It's usually best to check the more common spots before investigating the plumbing system.

You should add chlorine within 48 hours of filling your pool with water. In just 24 hours, bacteria and algae will begin to grow and contaminate your water. After that point, you’ll need to shock the water with high levels of chlorine, and you’ll likely need to do additional vacuuming to get the pool clean. It’s important to check your chlorine levels two to three times a week and add more chlorine as needed to maintain a healthy level.
