They rely on subpar subcontractors with no professionalism or craftsmanship. ? Overpromise and underdeliver: I had to stay on top of every detail myself, doing the job the contractor was hired to manage. ? Unreliable: Never kept appointments or confirmed schedules. The only time they showed up on time was to collect payment. ? Unsafe practices: At one point, a subcontractor was cutting concrete inside the bathroom with a gas?powered tool, filling my entire home with smoke. I had to intervene to stop it and argue just to get basic protections like tarps in place. ? Poor management: Subcontractors openly complained about not being paid, and I even had to send one home myself because of unacceptable behavior. ? End result: Substandard work that does not reflect the money spent. Save yourself "

Shipping container pools are prone to rust and corrosion over time, especially if you install a saltwater system. Though the interior of your pool should be lined, the outside is at risk. Luckily there are a few things you can do.

Elevate your pool or place it on a foundation to prevent moisture buildup along the bottom of the container. Apply a rust inhibitor or paint to protect the outside of your pool, and maintain the proper chlorine levels to reduce the rate of corrosion. How long a pool liner lasts depends on the type of pool. Most in-ground pool liners last between six and 12 years, while aboveground pool liners last anywhere from six to 10 years. You can extend the life of your pool liner by maintaining proper pool chemistry, adding chemicals individually to avoid staining the liner, using a pool cover to protect it from the sun, and keeping sharp objects away from it.

Losing water out of your pool is normal, especially when you have children practicing their cannonballs. Between splashing water out and common evaporation, it's normal to lose some water from your pool. However, if you're losing water rapidly, you might have a pool leak.

Signs of a pool leak include:

  • Excessive lost water not due to splashing

  • Wet spots in the yard 

  • Higher-than-usual water bills

  • Standing water around pool equipment 

  • Algae growth

  • Cracks in or around the pool

Infinity pools do require slightly more maintenance than other pools because you’ll need to constantly monitor the water level. If the water level is out of whack, it won’t correctly flow over the edge, which gives the pool its infinity look. 

That said, the rest of the maintenance is largely dependent on the type of material you choose. Concrete needs a little extra care to prevent algae growth, and you will eventually need to resurface it. Fiberglass and vinyl liners are algae-resistant but they’re not as durable.
