Lawn Care - Maintain and Mow a Lawn

Serving Jaffrey, NH and surrounding areas

Approved

Small jobs welcome

"I hired this company to mow a newly seeded, lawn that had grown to various different lengths. I also needed some weed whacking done on a difficult stonewall. They came the very next morning and did a highly professional job. Everything was trimmed, dead leaves from a dogwood tree that scattered the lawn and driveway were all picked up, even a pile of weeds that I had made previously. They are fast, efficient, polite, and very reasonable in price. I highly recommend them."

"J & L did a very good job cleaning, cutting, trimming, and landscaping my lawn. Rank a 4 or 4.5 on the work. However, scheduling and keeping us informed was very poor. We had trouble contacting and getting return calls and getting them in for follow up work. Then they just disappeared."

"We recently hired Veteran Tree Services LLC to remove several large dead oak trees which were destined to hit our house and shed. Cody was quick to come out to view the property, taking the time to explain the entire process, timeline and estimated cost based on our situation. The crew arrived right on time, worked safely and quickly, and handled the job with impressive skill. They took great care in directing the fall of trees/branches to avoid damaging the surrounding landscaping. If you?re looking for a reliable, knowledgeable, and courteous tree service company, I highly recommend Cody and his company Veteran Tree Services LLC. They truly exceeded our expectations and more importantly gave me piece of mind, we no longer have to worry about the mighty oaks crashing into our house or someone being injured."

Weed Services questions, answered by experts

The best way to keep voles from tunneling in your yard is to keep grass trimmed and bushes cut back from the ground at least 5 inches. Cleaning up yard debris, wood chip piles, and brush piles can also help keep voles at bay. If you notice vole activity, you can also remove bird feeders since these are a ready source of food for the tunneling rodents.

The best way to prevent weeds is to use polymeric sand, which hardens and blocks weed growth when activated with water. If you're using regular sand, you'll need to refill and compact it more often. Keeping the surface clean and free of debris can also help prevent weed seeds from settling in the joints.

Burning is not a recommended method for controlling foxtail grasses. In a large pasture scenario, the fire moves too quickly through the weeds to effectively burn and kill the seeds, meaning they will resprout eventually. If your lawn is overrun with foxtails, it’s best to consult a lawn care professional for suggestions on how to permanently remove it from your property.

You should add 1 to 4 inches of mulch, depending on your garden type and needs. Keep in mind that no amount of mulch can completely prevent weeds, but a heavier coverage (closer to 4 inches) can suppress weeds enough that you are only seeing them sprout every few weeks. Finer mulch prevents weeds more effectively than large mulch, so if you’re using mulched leaves or shredded bark, 1 to 2 inches will likely suffice, while 3 to 4 inches is best for larger mulch, like bark chips or straw.

Look for a broadleaf herbicide, one that has been formulated specifically for dandelions and is considered grass-safe.
