"J & L did a very good job cleaning, cutting, trimming, and landscaping my lawn. Rank a 4 or 4.5 on the work. However, scheduling and keeping us informed was very poor. We had trouble contacting and getting return calls and getting them in for follow up work. Then they just disappeared."

"I hired Jacob last year, he was outstanding. This year I called on a Thursday, I was snowed in. He said he'd be there that day but never came. I called Friday, he promised to come out. Never came. Been trying to reach him for 48 hours and just get his voice mail (but box is full can't leave a message). He's not taking my calls and hasn't called me back to let me know if there's a problem. They did exceptional work for me the entire last winter and were swift and expedient, but this year, they're just no showing on two appointments and not returning calls. I'd just like professional service like they were last year."

"Very professional and courteous. A fast response to my inquiry and a thoughtful follow-up call. The service was detailed, but not intrusive. Steve W was great. Very professional, prompt, and leant his expertise when we needed it. He suggested a diagonal tile arrangement, and we love it. He laid down a tile heating mat, which he had never done before but learned how to do for our job. He also took the time to check with us on grout color (and exchanged the original for a different color). We are very pleased and highly recommend Steve W for tile work."

"I hired this company to mow a newly seeded, lawn that had grown to various different lengths. I also needed some weed whacking done on a difficult stonewall. They came the very next morning and did a highly professional job. Everything was trimmed, dead leaves from a dogwood tree that scattered the lawn and driveway were all picked up, even a pile of weeds that I had made previously. They are fast, efficient, polite, and very reasonable in price. I highly recommend them."

Weed Services questions, answered by experts

Several tools exist that can help remove unwanted grass. The one you choose depends greatly on how much you need to remove and how hard you'd like to work. A sod or turf cutter is the fastest method while using a shovel is labor-intensive and much slower. You may also need a garden rake, tiller, and wheelbarrow.

The hydroseed mix—known as a slurry—helps grass seed take root in many ways. Water combines with the mulch, allowing the grass seed to stay moist while grounded in the soil. The extra fertilizer then provides the boost the seed needs to flourish. In just a few weeks, you'll be ready to break out the lawnmower again.

Glyphosate and other non-selective herbicides can kill orchard grass, but they will also kill the surrounding plants. Also, not all areas allow the use of glyphosate due to its environmental impact—which the EPA describes as a "potential risk to terrestrial and aquatic plants and birds, and low toxicity to honeybees." Consider mechanical removal to target the plants specifically.

Poison oak is similar to poison ivy in that it's in the same family of plants. Poison oak is identifiable by its rounded-off leaves and hairy leaf texture. Tree-climbing varieties live primarily in western states while low-growing poison oak bushes occupy the eastern states. Treat poison oak like poison ivy to get rid of it permanently.

Mowing your grass regularly, especially if you’re mowing close to the ground, can help kill Johnsongrass. Frequent mowing helps limit the spread of Johnsongrass and can even deplete carbohydrate reserves in rhizomes over time. The more time you leave in between mowing, the more likely Johnsongrass is to regrow and take over your lawn.
